The only 16-year-old Cody “Clix” Conrod is one of the biggest Twitch streamers of the online shooter Fortnite, but now there’s trouble with Epic Games: They have banned his lucrative Creator Code. The background is a bad joke.
This is Clix: The 16-year-old is today what Ninja was in 2018 and Tfue in 2019 for Fortnite: the face of the online shooter. When Clix is playing Fortnite, nearly 30,000 people watch him.
However, Clix has often caught attention for strange actions. For instance, he has developed a preference for betting real money in Fortnite and has already received a reprimand from Epic for it.
In addition, he was recently banned by Twitch because a pornographic image was visible on his PC during the stream.
Epic Games bans Clix’s Creator Code for Fortnite
This is now the new punishment: Epic Games has hit Clix where it really hurts: in the wallet. Because they have banned his Creator Code in Fortnite.
Normally, Clix receives 5% of all revenue from players who shop in the Cash Shop of Fortnite using his Creator Code. The streamer Ninja earned up to 5 million US dollars in a month with his code a few years ago. For Clix, this likely represents lucrative earnings.
This is what Clix did: Apparently, Clix had his code revoked because he told a tasteless joke on Twitter:
- He invited a girl over
- Then mixed laxatives into her drink
- Moreover clogged the toilet so that her feces stayed in the toilet
- Now he eats out of the bowl every day
This is what Clix now says: The 16-year-old says he thought it would be clear as a joke. But he sees that he represents a company and shouldn’t have tweeted that.
He hopes now that he will get his code back.
This is behind it: What makes the situation so serious from Epic’s perspective is certainly the “I secretly put something in a woman’s drink” aspect: This shows parallels to rapes, in which women in bars are deliberately sedated with so-called “date rape drugs” and then abused. Therefore, women have been advised for years not to leave their drinks unattended.
Clix may not even be aware of this, but with the joke he clearly crossed a line for Epic Games.
The incident reminds of an absurd tweet from a major Destiny streamer who jokingly announced to have sex with hamsters, who died during the process:
