You have no friends to practice your skills in the Playground of Fortnite: Battle Royale? No problem! Epic has significantly enhanced the Playground with the 6.20 update, now giving lone wolves the chance to become a Fortnite pro or at least improve.
Why is the Playground so great for training? Unlike the normal Battle Royale mode, you can do whatever you want in the Playground without being disturbed by 99 bloodthirsty opponents. You also have significantly more time before the storm sets in. Additionally, you will find many more items and building materials in the Playground.
The mode is therefore perfect for sharpening your shooting skills or building abilities. Until now, the Playground could only be efficiently used with friends. With the 6.20 update, solo players can now also benefit from the Playground.

What’s new in the Playground? With the 6.20 update, not only was a new weapon introduced and the limited time mode Fortnitemares added, but also the Playground has been expanded with new features:
- Pocket Challenges – The practical items resembling pocket fortresses come with the mini-games obstacle course, building challenge, and shooting range.
- Thorn Stadium 2 – The new Thorn Stadium returns with an improved spawn system and offers vending machines for traps and grenades.
- Pocket Pirate Ship – The pirate ship can be built from wood and metal and is a team-based mini-game where you must destroy the opposing ship.
Especially the Pocket Challenges are interesting for solo players, as you can train all the skills needed for Fortnite with these mini-games – solo!

Where can you find the vending machines for the Pocket Challenges? You can find the machines at the southern edge of Loot Lake. The catch: You get the items for free!
With the pickaxe, you can choose the desired mini-game. Furthermore, you will find the mini-games in various rarities.
This way, you will find a vending machine for each rarity, i.e., common (gray), uncommon (green), rare (blue), epic (purple), and legendary (orange). As rarity increases, so does the difficulty of the mini-game. This way, you can start training right where your current skill level matches.

The new obstacle course in the Playground – Here’s how it works
This is how the obstacle course works: Once you throw the item on the ground, you can start the mini-game using the transparent timer. After a countdown, time will run and you must complete the course as quickly as possible.
During the course, you must collect as many tokens as possible. Especially at higher difficulty levels, the challenge gets tough. You must maneuver with ice blocks at your feet and jump in the right direction using bounce pads.
As if that wasn’t enough, you must place building components in certain sections to proceed. After successfully completing, your total time will be measured and rated according to the medal system (gold, silver, bronze).

This is what you train with the obstacle course: Quick direction changes, handicaps like the ice blocks, and placing the right building component at the right time, the obstacle course demands everything from you that doesn’t revolve around firing a weapon.
So, if you particularly struggle with movement and coordination of quick direction changes, you can improve your skills with the obstacle course.
The new building challenge in the Playground – Here’s how it works
This is how the building challenge works: Depending on rarity (= difficulty), you must place specified building components. The crucial factor is time, as you must place the components as quickly as possible.
Classic constructions are required, which any aggressive player can easily whip out by now (ramps to push opponents).

As with the obstacle course, you will receive a rating according to the medal principle after successful completion. This way, you can always compete against your previously achieved best time.
This is what you train with the building challenge: If you have so far struggled to get accustomed to the building mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale, you now have a stress-free environment to work on your building skills. Editing building components will also be practiced.
The new shooting range in the Playground – Here’s how it works
This is how the shooting range works: After placing the designated item for the shooting range, a small arena will appear, where dummies will appear that you must eliminate as quickly as possible.
On the lowest difficulty level, the dummies will stand around like oil statues; in harder challenges, you must also eliminate moving targets. At the legendary level, you will also need to eliminate the targets from a great distance.
Practical: With every shooting range you place, you have the option to pick a weapon of your choice from specially placed vending machines. Have you been hesitant to play with the hunting rifles? Now you can practice stress-free for as long as you like.
Pro tip: Build up into the air before activating the shooting range. On the ground, the shooting range can become an obstacle for the dummies due to rough terrain, which should be avoided.
This is what you train with the shooting range: Aiming with all weapons from various ranges against moving and stationary “enemies.” If you have previously struggled with weapon behavior, you can now practice everything that can shoot without concern. But always remember: The dummies never shoot back.
You can also experiment: How does weapon precision behave when you move? What happens when you jump while shooting? How far do you need to aim in front of a moving enemy? Those who perfect their weapon handling are ready for any encounter on the battlefield.

It has never been easier for solo players to improve their Fortnite skills. Use the opportunities in the Playground to enhance your game.
