Why did people believe in the Kraken? On Tuesday evening, many Reddit users were convinced that they had uncovered a new leak. A Reddit thread surfaced that showed the “accidental” details. The thread is titled:
“NEWS: One of the Epic developers seems to have forgotten to turn off the player display, so we now have info. It looks like we will see a mythical creature called Kraken in Season 8!”
This was followed by a screenshot from a Discord user. Discord has a feature that shows other users what game you are currently playing.
A player spotted this info and also saw the hint about the Kraken. For the discoverer, it was clear: the developer must not have been careful and has now leaked the big announcement of a Kraken via Discord.
Animals like tigers are also said to belong to Season 8 in Fortnite.
Leak turns out to be a troll: A few minutes later, the next Reddit thread appeared. It admits, “We got trolled.”
The supposed Epic developer is just a community moderator for one of the official Fortnite Discord servers. And shortly after, they changed their display on Discord to another game. It is called “You all got trolled, with love ♥”
The game names displayed in Discord can be manually influenced to spread messages.
This is what fans are now talking about: Many players on Reddit realize that this was a cool kind of trolling. They say, “Oh man, we got played” and praise the humor.
Others speculate that it probably wasn’t trolling at all. “I think he just wants to cover it up. hmmm,” writes one user. Another writes, “This isn’t a troll; he’s just trying to cover his tracks.”
