The Blood of Dawnwalker is a new role-playing game featuring vampires for PC and consoles. A new gameplay video is thrilling the fans and reminds of a mix of popular RPGs.
What kind of game is The Blood of Dawnwalker? The Blood of Dawnwalker is a single-player action role-playing game developed by Rebel Wolves – a studio founded by former developers of The Witcher 3 . You take on the role of Coen, a fallen hero who gradually transforms into a supernatural creature, a so-called Dawnwalker.
Especially exciting is the day-night cycle: During the day you are vulnerable, but as night falls, Coen’s vampiric powers awaken. In these phases, you can unleash powerful abilities and defeat your enemies in brutal ways. You will repeatedly have to make difficult decisions that affect not only the story but also your development.
The game is expected to be released in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In a new video, about 20 minutes long, the developers have now shown gameplay that excites the community.
First insights into the combat system and the open world remind of a mix of Witcher 3 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance
What insights does the video show? In the nearly 21-minute long video on YouTube first insights into the pre-beta version of the game are shown. The situations presented are set around the middle of the game to provide the most comprehensive insight possible.
The focus is on the combat system, where you can attack and parry from four different directions, similar to the popular role-playing game Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Additionally, abilities and magic reminiscent of The Witcher are also available.
There are also first impressions of the menus, the map, and the skill trees. The latter are divided into 3 categories: Human, Vampire, and abilities that affect both sides.
The world aesthetically strongly resembles the flair of the Witcher games, which is hardly surprising given the involved team. The video shows, among other things, a larger city as well as interactions with the environment and various NPCs with corresponding dialogue options.
The first phase of the video shows the game during the day. Subsequently, the same sequence is shown again at night to highlight the differences of the cycle. Early insights into life as a vampire and its abilities are also presented. Possible freedoms at the player’s disposal are alluded to as well.

Like popular RPGs but with its own spin?
How are the insights received in the community? On Reddit, players are mainly enthusiastic about these first impressions of the gameplay of the new role-playing game. However, there is also criticism of the camera and movements in combat. Additionally, comparisons to popular RPGs are drawn:
- Kreygasm2233 writes about the video: ‘It looks like they are taking many good things from KCD and The Witcher 3 while adding their own touch. I am totally for it.’
- OrganicKeynesianBean adds: ‘Parts of it look good, but the stiff camera during the fight is brutal.’
- richard1177 says: ‘I didn’t expect the sword fighting to look like a fast Kingdom Come: Deliverance with some powers, but I’m curious if they can make it feel good. The game really looks like a Witcher 3 with vampires, I hope they manage to achieve the same quest quality as the game.’
- scytheavatar points out: ‘The approach ‘Switch to first-person -> Pause combat to call up the ability wheel -> Select ability -> Cutscene -> Return to third person’ seems to get tiring very quickly.’
- robo221 is excited: ‘I like the cutscene abilities, they remind me of Deus Ex Human Revolution.’
The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to release in 2026 on Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, focusing on a significant influence of past time in the game. Every action in Blood of Dawnwalker is to be thoughtfully considered and should have a major impact: New RPG from the creators of Witcher 3 makes you think three times about whether you really want to play mini-games
