A new strategy game on Steam can now be tried for free for a limited time at Steam. At first glance, it strongly resembles games like Civilization, but takes place in a fantasy world.
What game is it? It is called Endless Legend 2 and is a 4X strategy game from developer Amplitude Studios. The game will enter its early access phase on Steam on September 22, 2025. This is 11 years after the original, which was released on September 18, 2014.
However, you already have the opportunity to play Endless Legend 2. From August 11 to August 18 – for a week – you can download a free demo on Steam.

What kind of game is it? Endless Legend 2 plays out fundamentally like Civilization: You move on a world map divided into hexagonal fields, where you build cities, let them grow, and expand into new areas – if necessary, with the help of your military.
The individual factions benefit from the fantasy setting of the game and are designed to play fundamentally differently, both in terms of development and militarily.
This time, the game world is a paradisiacal ocean world, where the tides behave erratically. The changing sea level causes entire land areas to sink into the sea. When the water recedes, however, much sought-after, fertile land emerges.
What do the first reactions look like? The first reviews from players of the demo on Steam are already in and are overall “very positive”. However, this rating arises from only 66 Steam reviews (as of August 12, 14:04), which makes it less reliable.
- Wellinger writes in his review on Steam: “As I jumped into Endless Legend 2, I expected something similar to EL 1, just with a few additional features. The demo feels very solid and as a player of 4X and grand strategy games, I must say it’s better than I expected.”
- “It’s so nice to return to the Endless universe. It feels like coming home. The game runs smoothly, looks beautiful, and of course, there is great music. I can’t wait for early access,” writes BroLuk on Steam
- A player is disappointed with the selection of playable factions in the demo and writes: “I honestly wasn’t a fan of either of the two factions in the demo, especially not of the Kin and whatever their leader’s name is. Without information on other potential factions, I probably won’t jump into early access.” (on Steam)
