In the new shooter Remnant 2, there are tricky puzzles and secret classes that you unlock during the course of the game. For a special class, it was even necessary for the community to analyze the game files to find out how to unlock the Archon.
Which class is it about? The “Archon” is similar to the secret archetype Alchemist, a supportive class designed to assist your friends in battle. It enhances both the weapon mods and the mod power generation of your allies.
What did players have to do that got them banned by other developers? The Archon was not officially introduced or announced by the developers. It was hidden and has various requirements for unlocking, making it impossible for a player to unlock it by chance.
To even learn about the existence of the class, the community first had to engage in data mining – that is, searching the game files for interesting information and discovering the archetype.
The second step to unlocking it was to find out through data mining what players need to accomplish in the game itself to ultimately obtain and play as the Archon.
As Ben Cureton, a developer of Remnant 2, revealed on Twitter on July 28, the team behind the shooter knew they could not prevent data mining. They decided to create a class that must be discovered through data mining:
We knew we couldn’t stop data mining, so we embraced it and created an entire archetype that could be shared with the community as soon as it was discovered by those with the ability to see between worlds.

Data miners reveal hidden information
Why do other developers ban for this? Data mining is not well-received by some game developers. It allows players to access information they would normally need to play the game to obtain – but without actually playing.
Instead of solving a puzzle in the intended way, the solution can be found through data mining without having to think for themselves. The same applies to secrets that players are supposed to discover randomly in the game.
Overall, data miners often gain access to information that developers have not yet released. For example, in GTA Online, there are long lists of new vehicles or missions before they are introduced by Rockstar Games. The content may already be in the game, but not yet available to players.
Battlestate Games intended to ban data miners. The developers of the extraction shooter Escape from Tarkov wanted to prevent precise values affecting balancing from being leaked to players.
Remnant 2: Unlocking the Archon – Here’s how
How do you unlock the Archon? Since you can comfortably skip the two data mining steps, which the community has already completed, let’s move on to what you need to do in the game itself.
First, you need to equip a total of 12 different items and skills:
- The “Stalker” class at level 05 with the “Worm Hole” skill activated
- The “Explorer” class at level 10 with the “Fortune Hunter” skill activated
- Amulet: Leto’s Amulet
- Ring 1: Amber Moonstone Ring
- Ring 2: Anastasija’s Inspiration Ring
- Ring 3: Zania’s Malice Ring
- Ring 4: Black Cat Band Ring
- Armor: Realmwalker Armor
- Long gun: Ford’s Scattergun
- Handgun: The Cube Gun
- Melee weapon: Labyrinth Staff
- Relic: Void Heart Relic
Then you must go to the Labyrinth with the 12 equipped items and skills, where you can now open the corrupted door. In the back rooms, you’ll find an item called “Strange Box”.
You then need to bring the “Strange Box” to the mystic Wallace in Ward 13, who will give you the engram “Hexahedron,” with which you can then equip the archetype “Archon”.
Another secret class in Remnant 2 is the Engineer. You can find out how to unlock him on MeinMMO:
