A new hero has been announced for the MOBA Heroes of the Storm (HotS). The new hero Imperius has long been a wish of the community, which is finally being fulfilled.
What happened? On December 28, announcements about the new hero Imperius were made on the official Heroes of the Storm channels on Twitter and Facebook.
The Archangel of Valor has long been anticipated by the community and will soon be coming to the servers.
When can I play Imperius? According to the announcement, Imperius will be playable on the Heroes of the Storm PTR on January 2, 2019. Heroes typically spend about a week on the PTR before they are implemented.
We estimate that Imperius will be live around January 8.
Imperius: Archangel, new hero and fan favorite
Who is Imperius? Imperius is the Archangel of Valor from the Diablo universe. He is a member of the “Angiris Council of High Heaven,” along with
- Auriel
- Tyrael
- Malthael
- Itherael
Aside from Itherael and two former members, all Archangels are already represented in Heroes of the Storm. Imperius played the role of leader and frequently took command.
Imperius is known as a determined commander, who knows no compromise and often leans towards violence. His abilities from Diablo include excellent melee combat, teleportation, and telekinesis.
What role will Imperius have? Discussions quickly arose about the role of the new hero. The personality and known abilities from the Diablo series lead to the conclusion that Imperius will be a melee hero.
A post appeared on reddit where players could vote on their guess. A developer from Heroes of the Storm said in this thread: “I vote for Bruiser.” This makes it very likely that Imperius will be a Bruiser, meaning an Offtank.
What abilities Imperius will have is still unknown. From his abilities in the Diablo universe, a similar kit can be derived as that of Tyrael.
What makes Imperius so special? Imperius is one of the heroes who has been awaited by the “Heroes of the Storm” community for a long time. For about two years, there have been discussions about the angel, as seen in this thread in the official forum from January 2017.
After the announcement, that Heroes of the Storm will no longer receive eSports support from Blizzard, the game is often predicted to be dying. Some players see it as pointless to implement new heroes now.
Others see a glimmer of hope in Imperius. The fact that a fan wish is being fulfilled after such a long time brings hope. According to an insider, at least the game development at Blizzard is not being cut.
