In the 87th letter from the producer, the developer livestream for Final Fantasy XIV, the upcoming content for Patch 7.3 was introduced. Feedback from the community, which has been close to their hearts for years, is also addressed. We present the key innovations in our summary for Patch 7.3.
What feedback is being referred to? The next major Patch 7.3 for Final Fantasy 14 is titled “The Promise of Tomorrow” and is expected to be released in early August 2025.
Besides a new story, it will bring a lot of new content and innovations, including one that will particularly interest players of the rabbit race “Viera”: There will be an option to solve your known issue with headpieces.
However, not quite in the way you might have imagined. The developers are addressing a topic that has been a long-standing concern for the community and has since been a significant wish for many players (see Reddit).

All upcoming content for Patch 7.3
How will the patch solve the “Viera problem”? With patch 7.3, you will have the option to hide your Viera ears. This way, you can avoid your ears clipping through hats or helmets.
You can choose this option for each headgear individually, and you will find the button for it in your character overview next to the option to open or close the visor. The option is explained as folding your ears under the headgear.
Furthermore, many headgear items have been revamped so that they fit both Viera and the feline Hrothgar better, and now items can be worn that previously could not be worn by these races at all. This selection is set to be expanded in the future.
While the ears no longer clip through the headgear, many players might have preferred solutions that allow them to wear headgear without clipping, without having to hide their distinctive ears. Because this way, they look more like larger Hyuran (humans) and no longer like “rabbit people”.
Nevertheless, it is an approach that can work well for players who prioritize the fashion aspect.
All other races will additionally have the option to show or hide the bangs of their hairstyle under hoods and helmets. This option also applies to Viera and Hrothgar. Thus, the developers want to encourage players to wear more hoods, as they can now also display hair.

In addition to the new option for the Viera and the hairstyles of all races, new content is also arriving with Patch 7.3 along with some changes:

- Commands will be adjusted
- New arena for Crystalline Conflict
- New ranking tiers for CC will be added
- 2-player content searches will be allowed for casual
- Cosmo exploration receives a new planet: Phaenna
- New quests and level for the phantom relic weapons
- New deep dungeon: Pilgrim’s Path
- New optional feature for speech bubbles (is turned off by default)
