Final Fantasy XIV has released new details about the upcoming Patch 5.5 – Death until Dawn – which is set to be released in two parts and transition into the upcoming expansion Endwalker.
What’s in Patch 5.5? Following the announcement of the new expansion Endwalker, Naoki Yoshida also revealed details about the new update. The major innovations of the update are:
- A new story and its associated dungeon Palgth’an
- The conclusion of the story Sorrow of Werlyt
- The third part of the Nier Automata raid for 24 players
When will Patch 5.5 be released? The new update will be split into two parts. The first update will be released on April 13 alongside the open beta for the PS5 version of the MMORPG.
The second part is expected to be released at the end of May after the fan festival. The festival will take place on May 15 and 16 and is expected to bring new information about Endwalker.
Story from 5.5 aims to resolve dilemmas and lead into the expansion
What to expect in the story: With the new update, a quest line for the main scenario will be introduced that is linked to the expansion Endwalker. Officially, it was stated that this quest line will resolve ongoing dilemmas while simultaneously opening up the new narrative arc.
Part of this story is the dungeon Palgth’an. It will support the Trust system, allowing you to take NPCs with you. However, specific details about the dungeon and the story were not shared. Yoshida merely mentioned that players will be familiar with the location.
At the same time, the final chapter of the battle for Werlyt is set to be released with Patch 5.5.
What else does the patch bring? In addition to the story and the third part of the raid, some smaller innovations and adjustments are planned:
- There will be job adjustments with Patch 5.5, which have not been further elaborated on.
- New armor and rewards for PvP are planned.
- There will be a new unreal trial.
- There will be adjustments for craftsmen, who will receive new challenging expert recipes.
- Collectors will be able to display collection points directly on the map via the handbook.
