Patch 7.31 for Final Fantasy XIV will be released on September 2, 2025, bringing new content for all grind fans. Especially crafters and gatherers can look forward to new content for the Cosmic Expeditions.
What does Patch 7.31 bring? Patch 7.31 is the first of two announced mini-patches for 7.3 in Final Fantasy XIV. It will now introduce some new content.
Included are among others:
- New Cosmic Exploration
- The first upgrade level for the Phantom Weapons
- Balancing updates for the combat classes
With the Cosmic Expeditions and the Phantom Weapons, 7.31 is an update with more grind-heavy content. Of course, there will also be new emotes, housing items, and companions. And there is at least one very curious mount included.
Travel to Space, Weapon Upgrades, and … a Loader?
What’s new in the Cosmic Exploration? As part of the Cosmic Exploration, you will now leave the moon base starting from Patch 7.31: You head to Phaenna, a new planet in the sea of stars. The quest line to get there starts at Searchingway in Sinus Ardorum (X: 20.4; Y:20.0). The quest Passion, Thy Name Is Ardorum
. must be completed beforehand.
There are new in-game currencies, for example the Phaenna-Coins and -Marks, as well as new projects for building up the planet. Additionally, the Cosmic Tools can be strengthened.
Also presumably unlockable via the Cosmic Exploration is the latest announced mount: A Loader.

What’s the status of the Phantom Weapons? In the field excursion Occult Crescent, there is also new content: Specifically, the Dawntrail Relic Weapons can now be upgraded by one level. To do this, the quest Old Forge Doesn’t Rust
must be accepted in the Trick City at Lydirceil – but prior, Fantastic Blacksmithing
must be completed.
New is the so-called Sphere Table. This allows checking the current progress of the strengthening. It consists of four spheres, each with a symbol for the elements of fire, air, water, and earth, which can seemingly be charged up to 10,000 of an undefined unit.
What else is exciting in the patch? In addition to the Phantom Weapons and the Cosmic Expeditions, there are also balancing adjustments for the classes. The Monk in particular is getting buffed. Additionally, there are new housing items, emotes, and equipment. On top of that, adjustments to the Palace of the Dead are also coming.
Patch 7.31 primarily brings grind-heavy content. However, the randomness factor, which caused very long or very short gathering times for the Phantom Weapons, was criticized at their introduction. How exactly the second phase of the relic weapons will look and whether player feedback has been incorporated into this phase is currently still unclear. However, recently, the shutdown of the mod Mare Synchronos came into focus for gamers, which also sparked a renewed discussion around DPS meters: The head of Final Fantasy XIV says mods must not ruin the fun – Now players are discussing DPS meters
