The producer of Final Fantasy 14 is currently in talks with Microsoft to address specific requests. You can probably guess what this is about: An Xbox One version of the online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV – A Realm Reborn.
So far, the fantasy MMORPG is “only” available for PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The fact that the online role-playing game is available on consoles is already quite pleasant. In the future, the creators of Final Fantasy XIV – A Realm Reborn are also planning a version for Microsoft’s Xbox One.
The hurdles of competition
However, there are still some problems … Producer Naoki Yoshida does not want to split the player community of Final Fantasy XIV – A Realm Reborn when it comes to the different platforms.
Currently, PC players can roam the lands together with PlayStation players. In the future, Xbox players should also be allowed to join this group. However, this would require Microsoft to agree to cross-platform play with its biggest competitor, Sony, with PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
It’s really not that simple …
No decision yet
As Naoki Yoshida reveals, Square Enix is currently discussing the situation and the wishes of the Final Fantasy creators with Microsoft. For Microsoft and the Xbox One, a release of Final Fantasy XIV – A Realm Reborn would certainly not be a bad deal, as the online role-playing game has a very active and enthusiastic player community, which would certainly bring Microsoft some cents again. We are curious to see how the story will develop and will keep you updated as usual!
