In the new trailer for Patch 5.4 of Final Fantasy XIV, there are some cool details hidden that are not immediately noticeable. Here are the 5 most exciting ones.
What does Patch 5.4 bring? In the Live Letter from producer Yoshida, which we streamed yesterday on MeinMMO, a lot of new content for the upcoming Patch 5.4 was announced.

The patch will be released on December 8, and the trailer for it has already been shown. In this trailer, there are some exciting pieces of information hidden that are not immediately visible. Here are 5 of them.
Ala Mhigo is burning
Even though it is the first shot seen in the trailer, this detail is still easy to overlook if you focus all your attention on the Ascian in the middle.
Yes, Ala Mhigo is burning. If you look at the location where the new Ascian Fandaniel strides, you quickly notice that it is the Royal Menagerie.
And just like in the addon “Stormblood”, we have a huge dragon setting the roof of the royal palace of Ala Mhigo on fire. Although the new dragon has a few more tentacles in its face than Shinryu.
Its complete design is heavily oriented towards the darkness and aesthetics of the Unsundered. It looks like a boss you could encounter in the Void Ark. And the likelihood is high that it was summoned by Fandaniel.
It is possible that this is a new Primordial. A hint that could support this is the short scene showing an Ala Mhigo NPC with glowing blue eyes (Timestamp: 1:41). This is usually a sign that he has been enslaved by a Primordial.
Whether that is true or not. In any case, we can assume that Ala Mhigo will be attacked again.
Ascian Mitron appears
The new Ascian Fandaniel has presented himself to us more than extensively, but there is still another “new” Ascian shown in the trailer.
This is Mitron, one of the two Ascians who have schemed their intrigues in the first shard world. He is recognizable by his mark, which belongs to the Esper Chaos.
Due to some lore statements from the “Shadowbringers” addon, fans believed that both Mitron and his partner Loghrif are dead. They were eliminated by Ardbert and his friends, which ultimately led to the Flood of Light.
Is Mitron and thus Loghrif not as dead as one might have presumed? Although the trailer at the moment he is shown is pretty dark, it is still clear that Eden and the large crystal are in the background.
This also means that the Ascian will have a direct connection to the Eden storyline and thus to Ryne and Gaia.
Are we traveling back in time?
The trailer repeatedly drops hints that we could travel through time again. There is the world of darkness, which was originally the 13th shard world and is prominently presented in the trailer.
One of the bosses we will fight in the raid is the Cloud of Darkness, which many will already know from the Crystal Tower raid. However, here it is much smaller, almost as if it were its weaker form.
Another hint was hidden in the environment of a battlefield in the trailer. During another boss fight, it seems we are in the area of the Crystarium at a specific spot:
However, in the trailer, you can see parts of buildings that are missing or destroyed on the current map. Fans therefore speculate that the players will be sent back in time here.
A third hint from the trailer is the ticking clocks at the very end. This refers to the background of Eden, which originally comes from FFVIII.
In FFVIII, the characters fight against a witch who will erase all life through time compression. A fan theory currently suggests that in FFXIV, Gaia will take on this role. After all, many of her abilities revolve around the manipulation of time.
The identity of the new “wolf boss”
Before you continue reading, another warning. There are heavy spoilers for the next boss from the raid.
Well hidden in the trailer is the hint for the true identity of the new wolf opponent from the Eden raid. This opponent apparently did not always look so monstrous and beastly.
In a brief shot in the trailer, you can see the beast standing on its hind legs and drawing a glowing red sword. It is this sword that gives us a hint as to who the beast might be.
The same sword is wielded by the NPC Cylva, whom you encounter during some Shadowbringers side quests. She was once a companion of Ardbert but betrayed him.
Cylva originally hails from the 13th shard world, known to us as the world of darkness. She was one of the Warriors of Light who were supposed to save the world, but she failed.
Due to the promises of the Ascians Mitron and Loghrif, she believed that betraying Ardbert and the Flood of Light could save her own world. In the end, she was defeated and has been wandering as a spirit for 100 years in the first shard world.
Whether she is indeed the one transforming into the boss monster will be revealed on December 8.
Exciting boss opponents
There are also a number of bosses that are shown in the trailer but are not elaborated on. However, they carry some cool lore implications if they turn out to be what fans suspect.
The first of these bosses resembles a form of the Ascians. We recognize this form from the fight against Lahabrea-Igeyorhm or from a cutscene from version 1.0.
Interestingly, the battlefield here looks like the new area of Bozja, which will be arriving with 5.45. Therefore, it seems rather unlikely that this is a true Ascian. They have not been tied into the Bozja storyline so far.
Another interesting but unknown boss also appears to originate from the new Bozja dungeon. With its 4 arms, it strongly resembles Ravana, but otherwise looks completely different.
Some fans on reddit speculate that this might be the Primordial Asura from earlier FF games. The number of arms would certainly fit. However, Asura also has several faces, which cannot be seen in this shot. Therefore, it is difficult to say if this theory is grounded.
Lastly, there is a small boss that is only shown on screen for a few seconds. It appears in the scene when the Blue Mage in the trailer uses the kick from Suzaku. The character’s name is Gogo, and he originally comes from FFV.
Later in FFVI, he becomes a playable character. You meet him in the World of Ruins, and you can recruit him into your party. His special ability allows him to replicate the actions of party members. Therefore, he fits well with the Blue Mage job theme.
