Fans of Final Fantasy 14 are waiting for the new expansion. No matter what Square Enix is currently delivering in patches – players are currently dissatisfied with everything.
What are players dissatisfied with? Final Fantasy 14 is one of the most played MMORPGs. But currently, the game is struggling with drastically decreasing player numbers. The bad mood among fans of Final Fantasy 14 has been brewing for several weeks. There are several issues for fans that the MMORPG’s development team needs to address:
- A YouTuber outlined several criticisms from a content creator, criticizing the UI, server structure, and main quests of Dawntrail.
- The new field operation Kreszantia is dividing fans: Some find it too grind-heavy, while others finish quickly and wish for more rewards. Here Square Enix has already delivered.
- This leads to a significant decline in player numbers, the sharpest in 8 years.
Now there’s one more thing: Although Patch 7.3 “The Promise of Tomorrow” delivers new content, players are still dissatisfied. The reason: Square Enix is sticking too much to its 4-month rhythm.
Square Enix cannot convince players
What is the problem? Fans are tired of the development team’s routine and wish that the feedback on reported issues is addressed more promptly. At least, that’s what they write on Reddit. Every update has the same structure with new dungeons, raids, and story – which Square Enix, according to players, needs to change:
- “It is quite clear that what once was FFXIV’s greatest strength (consistent, predictable content releases) has become one of its weaknesses after 12 years. No one is as excited about the catch-up patches for the alliance raids anymore. I think they really need to shake up the formula,” says user mr_showboat.
- ““The Promise of Tomorrow” could be a patch title that aims a little too much at the way SE develops this game. There is always the promise that the game will be better tomorrow….,” believes user Top-Room-1804.
- “Yes, I haven’t played WoW for years, since I started with FFXIV years ago, but recently I’ve decided it’s time for a break from 14. I love the game, but it’s so repetitive right now. They MUST do something new,” says user StingKing456.
The Square Enix development team knows that the community is dissatisfied with some content. They even spoke in the past about “missteps in development”. But the criticism is aimed at the content itself and not the traditional approach to releasing new content.
What is coming with Patch 7.3? The content of Patch 7.3 is rich. There is even more main story, content such as a new dungeon, raid, or a new trial, as well as a new PvP arena. The new patch will be available on August 5, 2025.
After that, new zones for cosmic explorations, a new Deep Dungeon, and more Hildibrand adventures will follow. For the Deep Dungeon, the developers have ensured that all players can have fun equally. At least that is the plan: Final Fantasy 14 wants to ensure that everyone has fun with the new dungeon
