FIFA 22 receives its first major update. Title Update 1 addresses minor issues throughout the game and adjusts several gameplay aspects.
When will the FIFA 22 update be released? The Title Update is now available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Below is an overview of what Title Update 1 in FIFA 22 has in store for you.
What’s included in the new FIFA 22 update – Patch Notes
Overall, there are a lot of points in the patch notes for the first update in FIFA 22. On Twitter, EA describes the update as a way to “polish” many areas of the game. Thus, a large part of it deals with minor details.
For example:
- Improvements to the menus
- Minor bugs in gameplay
- Display errors
- Changes to certain animations. For instance, the walkout animation in packs is now slightly delayed, or fan choreography can now be seen in the stadium when the game is paused.
However, there are also some gameplay points we want to take a closer look at.
Update changes goalkeepers: The strong goalkeepers have been a major topic in FIFA 22. After all, the keepers are noticeably saving more shots compared to previous years.
Now, the update tweaks the goalkeepers a bit: They should no longer be as effective at saving shots fired into the top corner from inside the penalty area. This is especially true for shots coming from 11.27 meters or less. These are also extremely difficult shots to save in real life and are likely to score more often in the future.
At the same time, new goalkeeper animations have been added for when they try to block a high finesse shot. However, the effectiveness of the keepers for these shots is only said to be “marginally” increased, according to the patch notes. Primarily, the reactions of the keepers to such shots should look more authentic.
How this ultimately plays out in the game remains to be seen. Because finesse shots, especially from a long distance, have proven to be extremely effective in the first days. You can find tips for shooting in FIFA 22 here.
In addition, minor situations like faulty saves will be adjusted. Lastly, there were sometimes issues with goalkeepers using their hands to block while sprinting out of the penalty area. This should also no longer happen.
Improved defenders: Not only the goalkeepers but also the defenders will be slightly changed. Specifically: In the case of a corner kick, they should pay better attention. The defensive players should better cover potential counter situations.
Moreover, sliding tackles meant to intercept played balls will be improved. This should also help in defending counter situations.
What else will change in gameplay: In addition to player adjustments, there will be a few more changes in the game.
- The referee logic will be improved. More fouls should be called on high-speed tackles, while lighter contact will result in fewer fouls.
- The accuracy of throw-ins will be improved.
- Feigned shots could lead to a pass – that will be fixed.
Overall, the adjustments are very extensive. In addition to gameplay adjustments, there are also bug fixes in all modes. Some examples:
- In Career Mode, there were sometimes board demands that contradicted each other.
- Sometimes players demanded to be played even when they were injured.
- In VOLTA Arcade, tournaments can now be started with at least 2 players.
- In drop-in matches in Pro Clubs, tactical adjustments were not always implemented correctly.

Along with all these changes, several new songs are being added to FIFA 22, and 31 new star heads are also coming into the game. These refer to realistic faces of certain players – which players are involved has not yet been revealed by EA.
