FIFA 21 will also be released for the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X. Players can upgrade to the game for free if they already own FIFA 21 on the previous consoles. Here you can find all the known information so far.
When will FIFA 21 be available on next-gen? The FIFA 21 version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S will not be available immediately at launch, but a little later. From December 4, 2020, FIFA 21 will be available in its new version.
How to transfer FIFA 21 to PS5 and Xbox Series X
Upgrade at no additional cost: FIFA 21 offers a “Dual Entitlement”. This allows players who own the PS4 and Xbox One version of the game to carry it over to the next generation – in its optimized form.
The important thing is: Xbox One players can only upgrade to Xbox Series X, while PS4 players can only upgrade to PS5. For example, it is not possible to buy the PS4 version and then claim the Xbox Series X version if you switch consoles during the transition to next-gen.
Which version can I upgrade? If you get the console versions with a disc drive, you can simply insert the old disc and download the new version. However, you’ll also need the disc to play the game – so don’t throw it away, give it away or anything like that!
The digital copy of the game can also be easily upgraded – no matter which console version you have.
However, if you buy the digital version for PS5 or Xbox Series S, you should also purchase FIFA 21 digitally. There is no way to upgrade the physical copies of the game to the digital versions.
How long is the offer valid? Players can secure the upgrade until the release of FIFA 22. After that, it will no longer be possible.
What about my progress? Transferring game progress is only limitedly possible. You can take over all progress, bonuses or items from Ultimate Team and VOLTA. However, this is not possible for other modes. Your achievements in the career mode, for example, will remain on the old console. By the way, this also works the other way around: You can continue to play FIFA 21 on the old consoles after upgrading, but you can only carry over progress from VOLTA and FUT.
