Rewards in FIFA 21 are quite nice, aren’t they? The clear answer: Well! After all, there are plenty of cards that can ruin your beautiful rewards day in the most mean-spirited way.
It’s the classic moment: After great efforts, you have battled your way to 11 victories in the Weekend League. This secures qualification for the next time – but the Gold Rank 3 with its delicious two Player Picks from the TOTW is only three wins away.
When a new rank is in sight, it can sometimes be hard to put down the controller. After all, every weekend could be the magical moment when you suddenly shoot beyond your limits and qualify for the best rewards of all time.
Even in Rivals and Squad Battles, one often thinks: “Whatever, I’ll make it to the next rank.” Then you muster the will again, push through a few more matches, and maybe even succeed. Every FUT player knows this struggle – from beginner to elite kicker.
The nice thing is: In FIFA 21, you can be sure that the stress around rewards is always worth it. Wait, what? That’s not true? Oh right, that’s correct. For truly strong rewards, you need a whole lot of luck.
Instead of Messi, Ronaldo, and Neymar, it’s often unfortunately rather cards like the following that hide in the hard-earned packs – and which ruin the rewards for many players time and again.
Special Cards with No Special Values
What exactly are these special cards? Many players wondered this when the very special Champions League cards first appeared. The strange thing: These cards have a nice color, but no other special values. They are occasionally needed for SBCs or tasks, but that’s generally it. The same applies to the dark Conmebol cards.
There’s a beautiful fireworks display that makes you hope for a great card during the pack opening – but often it is such cards that come out in the end.
Especially insidious: These cards are often the ones shown to you as “the grand prize” in the pack during the pack opening. This means that even if you happen to hit a good gold player who would actually be a Walkout, they get pushed to the back – and you see the wonderful Conmebol card instead. This is a nuisance that is repeatedly criticized in the community (via reddit).
Really Rewarding Player Picks
Player Picks are among the most exciting rewards for which one plays the Weekend League. Guaranteed TOTW players in a nice red form – genius, right?
Theoretically, that’s right. But unfortunately, the TOTWs don’t always only contain the Ronaldos and Mbappés of this world, but also players who might make the whole grind a bit less worth it. These are completely average cards that are neither really useful in SBCs nor sellable on the market. And for that, you battle for Gold 3 rank!
Goalkeeper, Because You Always Need One More
Yes, of course: Every team needs a decent goalkeeper. This also applies in Ultimate Team, where Manuel Neuer, De Gea, or Courtois can simply save more than some amateur from the local league. But how many clubs need 20 to 30 goalkeepers?
The number might be a bit exaggerated, but the problem is real: Too often, it’s goalkeepers you pull from your packs that then take the place of high-rated players. They bring little on the transfer market, and you only need one keeper.
If the goalkeepers are also untradeable, which is the case for some SBC rewards nowadays, you can see where to put the third top keeper in the club. If in doubt, he has to go into an SBC, but due to his position he only helps to a limited extent.
The Inexpensive Average Player
This might be a bit far-fetched, as these players mainly fill packs. But it’s astonishing: How many players in packs do you not even look at because they have a value of 75 to 82, bring 700 coins on the market, and are just kind of “there”?
These players are the ones that basically only serve to pump quick coins into the club – but not so many that you could do anything meaningful with. You open the pack, see your Conmebol player, and sell all the other average players in a quick sale for a few sad coins into the vast FUT world. The classic pack from hell that one pulls way too often.
