Although EA has revealed numerous innovations for FIFA 20, the crucial buying factor for many football fans will ultimately be the gameplay. So: How does FIFA 20 play? Do I like the gaming experience at all?
With the FIFA 20 demo, you can check the new gameplay for free in detail and thoroughly. And you can do that comfortably from home. This way, you get an impression of FIFA 20, which will officially celebrate its worldwide release on September 27, 2019. But when is the FIFA 20 demo coming out?
Release date and start time of the FIFA 20 demo – When can you play?
The release date and all official information about the demo will be announced by EA Sports shortly before the start. However, looking at the past years, we can make reliable predictions.
The release date of the demo:
- The FIFA 20 demo is expected to be released on September 12, 2019. This is a Thursday. According to a leak, this date is supposed to be confirmed.
- A newer leak from the Xbox Store mentions September 10. These two days are considered likely.
In the last 12 years, the FIFA demo has consistently been released two weeks before the official launch of the annual FIFA installment. It will be no different for FIFA 20. And since Thursday was the demo date in the past, September 12 is likely as the release date for the FIFA 20 demo. However, in the years prior to FIFA 19 (such as FIFA 18 or FIFA 17), the demo was always released on Tuesdays, which is why September 10 is also possible.
At what time does the demo start in Germany? In recent years, EA has kept the exact start time a secret. We estimate it will start between 4 PM and 7 PM.
How to play the demo first: If you attended the Gamescom 2019, you could test FIFA 20 early. A beta version was already running, but not in Germany. The demo will be the next chance for everyone to test FIFA 20 beforehand.
Which teams are playable in the FIFA 20 demo? The teams
These teams are confirmed for the demo: The fifauteam page lists 6 teams that are supposed to be confirmed for the demo:
- Tottenham
- Borussia Dortmund
- Liverpool
- Manchester City
- Paris Saint-Germain
- Real Madrid
What about FC Bayern? In recent years, Bayern has been playable in the FIFA demo. However, since FIFA 20 they are no longer official EA partners, which is why they should not be expected in the demo. The same applies to Juventus Turin and Manchester United.

Game modes of the FIFA 20 demo version
Which modes can be played in the FIFA 20 demo? The demo will be a significantly limited version of the main game. It is still not known which modes will be integrated and how comprehensive they will be, but we expect:
- Kick-off mode including Champions League final
- Volta mode
That’s why kick-off is included: The kick-off mode is definitely in the demo; it’s always been like this for the past few years. In this, you can compete in matches with a 4-minute half length alone or against a friend. The kick-off mode in FIFA 20 will be expanded with a kind of zone control.
This is Volta: Volta is the major innovation of FIFA 20. It is a FIFA Street-like mode where you can show off your skills on the street. We strongly assume that you can play a few Volta matches in the demo.
Can you play the FIFA 20 demo online? No, there have been no online modes in FIFA demos so far. However, you can play the demo online on PS4 through a trick.
These should be all the features of the demo. You will not be able to transfer your game progress to the main game.

This platforms will receive the FIFA 20 demo: You can download and install the demo on PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Origin) as soon as it is available in the respective stores.
Is there a FIFA 20 demo for the Switch? No, we do not expect a Switch release. Last year, there was no demo for the Nintendo Switch.
Will the FIFA 20 demo be released for PS3 and Xbox 360? No. Last-gen consoles will not receive demo versions.
Will there be a FIFA 20 demo for Android or iOS? No. FIFA 20 and the FUT web app should not be confused with FIFA Mobile.
This is how the download and installation work: When the FIFA 20 demo is released, you will find the demo versions in the appropriate stores, namely the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Store. The PC download will be via Origin, not via Steam.
For the installation, you will need approximately 7 to 8 GB. Keep in mind that the stores are often overloaded at the demo release, and the download may take a while.
What about EA Access? You probably won’t be able to play the demo early if you want to play FIFA 20 via EA Access.

This is what you see in the demo video: On August 4th, EA Sports showed the first live gameplay of FIFA 20. Several fans have now uploaded this gameplay to YouTube, where you can review it afterwards.
It is a match between Liverpool and Real Madrid – which should confirm that these two teams will also be in the demo. It starts at minute 3:47:

Is the FIFA 20 demo worth it for me?
The FIFA 20 demo is worth it if you are considering buying FIFA 20 and want to get an impression of the gameplay beforehand. Since the demo is free, this glance is basically worthwhile for everyone. Even PES fans can take a peek at the competition and play a few matches – or if you do not want a full-price football game and only want to play a few matches against the CPU.
The FIFA 20 demo is not worth it if you have absolutely no interest in football, you are unlikely to get FIFA 20 anyway – and you have no idea how you ended up on this article.
Problems in the FIFA 20 demo: You should assume in advance that the demo will not run smoothly. It is a test build designed to eliminate last issues and bugs. The gameplay experience in the demo will therefore differ slightly from the final version.
Is a code required for the demo? No, the demo is freely accessible to everyone; you do not need a code or key.
What about the PES 2020 demo? The demo of the competitor eFootball PES 2020 has been live since the end of July.
