Anyone who wants to play 5v5 in FIFA 19 can actually do so. However, it is different than expected and requires a bit of effort.
FIFA Street in FIFA 19? In the weeks leading up to the revelation of many FIFA 19 features, rumors about a 5v5 mode emerged. This was said to resemble FIFA Street modes – which fans have been wanting in the FIFA series for years. Accordingly, this graphic, which supposedly leaked the 5v5 mode in FIFA 19, received a lot of attention:
However, this was a fake. There will be no mode called “Last Player Standing” and no proper 5v5 in FIFA 19.
Nevertheless, there is already a way to play a different kind of 5v5 in FIFA 19.
Eliminate as many players as possible in Survival
How does 5v5 work in FIFA 19? For this, go to the new kickoff menu and select the Survival mode.
What is special about Survival? In this new mode, one player from your team must leave the field for each goal scored. A maximum of four players per team can leave the field. Additionally, a maximum of two red cards can be received – if more are received, the match is lost. Read more about Survival in FIFA 19 here.
And now? Now you can choose a Survival match and extend the game time beforehand, so you can play the 5v5 for a while. Because with the Survival rule and the maximum of two red cards, you will now have six players per team on the field, which will take a few minutes. This means that each team will have five players left, including the goalkeeper. Now you have a 5v5.
The team overview will then look something like this:
The YouTuber TheMasterBucks shows you in the video how entertaining this 5v5 can be in practice. He is one of the “EA Game Changers” who have been able to extensively test FIFA 19 in advance and now publish gameplay material before anyone else. It starts at minute 5:50:
Since you are playing on the normal pitch despite 5v5, you have an incredible amount of space on the field. It is advisable to adjust the formation a bit after all the dismissals so that the players are better placed. But then: Have fun!
Is a 5v5 possible in FIFA 18? No, in FIFA 18 a match is lost as soon as the fifth red card is received. Thus, a maximum of four players can be dismissed per team.
In short: A 5v5, as many had hoped for, is not possible in FIFA 19. But if you want a little variety, you can create this different kind of 5v5 yourself.
Small FIFA Street pitches will also not be available in FIFA 19. However, you can find out which stadiums and arenas are included here:
