In FIFA 19 FUT, fans expect the Lunar New Year event 2019 – the event for the Lunar New Year in Ultimate Team. This could provide free packs, SBCs, and more content.
Update 8.2. 19:00: Apparently, there is no special “Lunar New Year” event this year. You can only pick up the community reward. Until 19:00, there was a special jersey for the Lunar New Year. Starting from 8.2. at 19:00, the Northern Lights jersey will be available as a weekly task for one week:

All we know so far about the Lunar New Year event in FUT 19
Quick info about “Lunar New Year”:
- The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of a new year in Chinese culture.
- On February 5, 2019, the “Year of the Pig” started.
- Lunar New Year has traditionally been celebrated in the Ultimate Team mode since FIFA 12.
Will there be a “Lunar New Year” event in FUT 19? Even though the Lunar New Year has already happened, no event started in FUT 19. Instead, EA revealed the community rewards on 5.2. Such free packs were available last year as part of the Lunar New Year event.
Currently, the Lunar New Year can be found hidden in the weekly tasks of FUT 19. You receive a jersey if you score 8 goals with CSL players. But is there more to come? Are the community rewards replacing the Lunar New Year event?
Lunar New Year likely starting soon
Update 8.2. 19:00: Apparently, there is no special “Lunar New Year” event this year.
Official information from EA is still pending, but history shows that we can still expect a “Lunar New Year” event. New events in FUT 19 usually start on Fridays – and last year, the Lunar New Year event also started on a Friday. Currently, the Headliners event is ongoing.
When does Lunar New Year start in FUT 19? Expected on February 8.
How long does Lunar New Year last? In recent years, the event lasted three days. So likely until February 11.
What content does Lunar New Year offer? We expect:
- Promo packs and lightning rounds
- Sets with coin discounts
- Exclusive squad-building challenges, including flash SBCs
- New jerseys – with one already available through the weekly task until 8.2. at 19:00.
- Free packs – though these are already available through the community rewards. EA is likely not to be generous again.
By February 8 at the latest, we will know whether the Lunar New Year will be celebrated extensively in FUT 19.
How to prepare for the possible event
Save coins: If you want to indulge in the temptation of pack opening, you can save up a stock of coins in advance to take advantage of the set offers. After all, currently top cards are available in TOTW 21. In general, however, it is not advisable to waste your coins on sets.
Market crash during Lunar New Year: Instead, our recommendation is to use your saved coins to scoop up some bargains on the transfer market. Because during the event, many sets are likely to be opened, which will flood the market with players and hence lower the prices of many cards. If you want better players for your team, invest the coins directly into the players.
