Two years ago, the “Ultimate Team” mode in the FIFA series made headlines for the wrong reasons. The reason was a fatal glitch in chemistry that was investigated and subsequently eliminated by EA Sports. As a result, the developers promised to handle the mysterious chemistry value more transparently in FUT and they did.
Chemistry in FUT 19: Every FUT fan knows that high chemistry is good and low chemistry is bad. But how is it calculated exactly? What impact does 100% team chemistry have on my game?
Chemistry Innovations in FIFA 19
In FIFA 19, you can see the impact of chemistry more accurately than ever before. Simply select any player and press the right stick to open their bio. Here you will find the attribute details overview:
Dybala normally has a finishing of 84. Due to high team chemistry, player chemistry, and the chemistry style Marksman, his finishing value increases by +10 to 94.
If chemistry is not so good – or really bad – it negatively impacts the stats:
Here, Dybala only has a player chemistry of 2, which means he suffers a decrease in his stats. His finishing value is now only 76.

The chemistry effect is determined at the start of the match
The impact of chemistry on your players’ attributes is determined at the beginning of each match and is not changed during the match. These chemistry effects are calculated from a combination of team chemistry and individual player chemistry:
Overall chemistry of a player:
- Starting players: 25% team chemistry and 75% player chemistry
- Substitute player brought in: 25% team chemistry and 75% of a fixed player chemistry of 5.
Substitutes benefit from high team chemistry, but their player chemistry is always calculated as 5.
This is the “chemistry formula” in FUT 19 – calculate chemistry
The effective impact of overall chemistry on player attributes is calculated as follows:
(Team Chemistry x 0.25) + ((Player Chemistry x10) x 0.75) = “Overall Chemistry” of a player
It applies that:
- If the result is higher than 50, the player attributes improve toward the maximum of 99.
- If the result is 50, the players retain their base attributes.
- If the result is 49 or lower, the attributes decline toward a minimum of 1.
Two examples from EA Sports:
- A starting player with 100 team chemistry and 10 player chemistry:
(Team Chemistry*.25) + ((Player Chemistry*10)*.75)
(100*.25) + ((10*10)*.75)
= 25 + 75
= 100 (99) –> The attributes are greatly improved.
2. A substitute in a team with 100 team chemistry:
(Team Chemistry*.25) + ((Player Chemistry*10)*.75)
(100*.25) + ((5*10)*.75)
= 25 + 37.5
= 62.5 –> The attributes improve, but not as much as in the first example.
Interestingly: Team management during the match, such as changing positions or formations, does not affect player chemistry. The starting formation with which the match begins is crucial.

What is team chemistry and player chemistry anyway?
The overall chemistry, which ultimately determines the attributes of your players, consists of two different chemistry values:
1. Team Chemistry: This is always displayed at the top right of the team formation. Team chemistry consists of all player chemistry values. It varies between 0 and the maximum value of 100.
Calculation:
Team Chemistry = Player Chemistry 1 + Player Chemistry 2 + … + Player Chemistry 11
This formula allows a total value of 110. However, theoretical values over 100 have no higher effect than the maximum value of 100.
2. Player Chemistry: You can check this chemistry by flipping through your active team with the right stick (on the web app, this works by scrolling). In the following image, the values of player chemistry are displayed with blue bars below the player card. The maximum value is 10 per player.
Player chemistry consists of: The position, the connections with teammates (red, orange, green), the manager bonus, and the loyalty bonus.

How is player chemistry composed?
Here the equation is:
Player chemistry = Position/Connections + Manager bonus + Loyalty bonus

Positions and Connections
This value is the trickiest to determine. It depends on the position a player plays and the teammates around them. The goal is to have the same nationality, league, and club.
The following table shows the relationship of connections (links) and positions: First, let’s look at the colors in the table. These indicate how well the player is positioned. Red means completely wrong, orange means that this position has little to do with their natural position, yellow indicates a decent relationship to the position, and green shows the natural positioning.
The following table illustrates all possible combinations:
In the first table, the L (left) needs to be highlighted: This value measures the intensity of the player’s relationship with their teammates. In-game, the connections are displayed in different colors:
- 3 (Strong green connection): Same nationality and club
- 2 (Green connection): Same club, but different nationality, or: same nationality and league but different clubs.
- 1 (orange connection): Same league, but different nationality and club, or: same nationality but different league.
- 0 (red connection): No match.
Depending on how the connections and the position are combined, the maximum value of player chemistry 10 can already be achieved here. In short: Just make sure that your players play in their positions and that nationality, league, and club match as much as possible, then nothing can go wrong.
Manager Bonus
If the manager’s league or nation matches with a player, the respective player chemistry value increases by 1. However, the bonus cannot exceed 1, so either league or nation is sufficient.
Loyalty Bonus
If a player is drawn from a pack himself or plays 10 games with a player bought on the transfer market, there is a loyalty bonus of 1 on the player chemistry value. This value cannot be increased.
In total, player chemistry can theoretically reach a value of 12, but anything above 10 has no stronger effect on individual chemistry than the maximum value of 10.

What is the relationship between team and player chemistry in the game?
As mentioned by EA Sports, team chemistry only has an impact of 25% on the actual chemistry effect, while player chemistry has a whopping 75%. Therefore, it is more important for a player’s performance to focus on a strong player chemistry (ideally 10) than to bring the team chemistry to 100.
An example: Player A with a player chemistry of 10 who plays in a team with 90 team chemistry will perform better than Player B with a player chemistry of 9 and team chemistry of 100. Input both into the formula and you get 97.5 (Player A) versus 92.5 (Player B).
How do icons behave in FUT 19?
Icons also require good chemistry. However, since they are not assigned to any league or club, their situation is a bit different. They do have a nationality. Here, player chemistry is calculated as follows based on relationships with teammates:
3 = Icon of the same nationality (green)
2 = Icon, but different nationality, or: not an icon, but same nationality (also green)
1 = Neither an icon nor the same nationality (orange)
0 = Icons cannot have red connections with other players
