In FUT 18, the “ratings refresh” phase is approaching, the time for winter upgrades and downgrades. EA Sports has already announced that the ratings refresh, which was first introduced in FIFA 17, will return in FUT 18.
Players who have shown strong performances on the pitch in recent months will receive better standard cards, while those who have fallen short of expectations will be penalized with downgrades, receiving worse standard cards.
An official release date for the new cards is not yet known. We assume that the “ratings refresh” phase will begin in mid-February, starting from 16.2.

How do I get an upgrade card with a higher overall rating?
Once the winter upgrade cards are released, they can be drawn in sets. The only requirement is that the set can contain players. The “old” cards of the respective players will no longer be found in the sets from this moment on – only the new standard cards will be available in packs until the end of FUT 18.
If you already own a card of a player who is being upgraded, it remains unchanged. It will not be automatically updated. If you want the player’s card with improved attributes, you must draw it from a set. It is also possible to acquire the winter upgrade cards from other players on the transfer market.
In other words: After the ratings refresh, two versions of standard cards for each player will coexist in FUT.
