In FIFA 18 Ultimate Team (FUT 18), the most important innovations are known. All information in overview.
On August 1, EA Sports revealed the new features that FIFA fans can look forward to in the “Ultimate Team” mode of FIFA 18. While the predecessor FUT 17 introduced Squad-Building Challenges and FUT Champions, FUT 18 builds on this foundation and delivers some surprises of its own.
FUT 18 – What is new?
EA Sports mentions several innovations – primarily the ICONS.
Icons for everyone – with ICONS Stories
The biggest innovation that EA Sports promotes are the Icons. Until now, these cards were called “Legends” and were only available on Xbox. In FUT 18, the special cards of former top players come to PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch in addition to Xbox.
What’s interesting about the ICONS Stories: Each icon has three cards with different overall ratings that reflect the various phases of the players’ careers. All information about Icons in FUT 18 has been summarized in the link. You will also find the first icon ratings there.
Squad Battles in FUT 18
The Squad Battles are a new single-player mode in FUT 18.
In it, you compete against other teams from the FUT community. This way, you earn rewards and rise in leaderboards.
In the so-called “Features Squad Battles,” you can even compete against teams from professional football players, pro FIFA players, and celebrities.
New Walkouts during Pack Opening
In FIFA 17, the “Walkouts” were introduced. When you pack a particularly good player from a set, an animation loads where not only the card but also the player’s full form is visible.
In FIFA 18, there will be new walkouts as well as individual walkouts for special players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Griezmann:

Objectives
In FUT 18, you can complete daily and weekly objectives. This can be done directly in FIFA 18 or via the new Companion app. There will be various objectives, such as team management objectives or in-match objectives.
The more difficult the challenge, the greater the rewards.
Such objectives are not completely new in FUT. In the last FUT years, there were “tutorials” in which you had to complete a few tasks. For that, there was a pack. However, these tutorials were once-only “objectives” – in FUT 18, in addition to starter objectives, there are also daily and weekly ones.
New Squad Building Challenges
In Squad Building Challenges, you create teams with specific requirements using your cards and exchange them irrevocably for rewards. In FUT 18, there will be more variety here.
There are “Combined Player Requirements” and “Brick Slots.” In the latter, certain positions must meet specified requirements:
More information about FUT 18:
- There will be a “Champions Channel”: This will allow you to watch replays of “Weekend League” matches from the best players in the world. You can choose camera settings and analyze their play styles.
- There will be more jerseys designed by community stars, soundtrack artists, and others.

- The Companion app and web app will be revamped. This will allow you to master objectives and Squad Building Challenges – and of course also be active in the transfer market and manage your team.
- The Ones to Watch will return in FUT 18. So far, 5 players are known: Lukaku, Lacazette, James Rodriguez, Bonucci, and Douglas Costa.
FIFA 18 will be released on September 29 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC and in a streamlined version on Nintendo Switch, PS3, and Xbox 360.
