The “FIFA 18” game mode Ultimate Team is celebrating its birthday – it turns nine years old. This evening, the event around FUT Birthday starts. Here you can find all the information about packs, player cards, SBCs, and the birthday team.
On March 19, 2009, Ultimate Team was introduced as an independent mode in FIFA. The FUT Birthday has been celebrated since FIFA 14 and has been getting bigger every year. EA has already announced the “FUT Birthday” event for this year.
FUT Birthday in FIFA 18: All Information about Release and Content
The Birthday event starts this year on Friday, March 16 at 7 PM, lasts for nine days, and ends on March 25.
Below you will find the information about the FUT Birthday team, the birthday and “End of an Era” SBCs, as well as gifts, weekly tasks, and promo sets.
The Birthday Team
The Birthday Team will be available in packs from 7 PM; instead of their normal cards, you will find the birthday cards in sets.
They behave like Inform cards: If you have the normal gold card of a player, it retains its rating. If you want the FUT Birthday version, you must pull it yourself or acquire it from other players on the transfer market.
This year, the team consists of players who dominated in earlier FUT parts in a different position. Included are, for example, Christiano Ronaldo as RF, Gareth Bale as LV, Javi Martinez as ZDM, and Marco Reus as MS.

FUT Birthday Squad Building Challenges
There will again be a new “End of an Era” SBC as well as “FUT Birthday” player SBCs. As “End of an Era” player, Kaka will appear with a rating of 92. The four “FUT Birthday” players are Bastian Schweinsteiger, Yaya Toure, Wayne Rooney, and Robin van Persie.
If you want to make one of the former stars as an SBC, you need “St. Patrick’s Day” players for that. You can obtain them through weekly tasks. Additionally, there is also a loan version of each card that can be completed without the special cards.
Attention: There might not be enough “St. Patrick’s Day” players to obtain all four football legends – choose wisely! The requirements are different:
- Wayne Rooney: 4 “St. Patrick’s Day” players and an 83-rated team
- Yaya Toure: 4 “St. Patrick’s Day” players and an 83-rated team
- Robin van Persie: 2 “St. Patrick’s Day” players
- Bastian Schweinsteiger: 1 “St. Patrick’s Day” player
Additionally, the release of more Prime Icons during FUT Birthday has been announced. Thus, it is quite possible that in a few days, Ronaldo (R9), Pele, or Gullit will be available as icon SBCs.
As last year, there will be “Daily Birthday Wish” SBCs, which promise valuable rewards at the end of the festivities. The daily SBCs start with FUT 09 and focus each day on unforgettable players of the respective FUT year. In addition to a set, there will also be the FUT Birthday jersey as a reward on the first day.
Other repeatable SBCs:
- TDW 1-26 Upgrade (untradeable): Here you will receive an 81+ player from an old or the current TDW. The cost for this is quite low: You only need to submit a team with a rating of 82.
- TDW Upgrade (tradeable): For a tradeable Inform from the current TDW, you need to pay more: A team with a rating of 83 and two Informs are required here.
Gifts, Weekly Tasks, and Promo Packs
No “FIFA 18” event has come this year without its own Weekly Challenges. Also during FUT Birthday, there are special tasks revolving around St. Patrick’s Day. The five Irish players that can be obtained through weekly tasks are Coleman, Horgan, Arter, Mc Geady, and David Meyler (also quite a successful FIFA player). They can be used to unlock the four “FUT Birthday” players.
The weekly tasks you need to complete to obtain the Irish cards are:
- Score 10 goals with a “header down” (For this, press the shoot button twice while heading, similar to the flat full volley)
- Score a hit on the crossbar in online single matches
- Complete 20 matches in Ultimate Team
- Score 10 goals with Irish players in online single matches
- Win 9 online season matches
Throughout the event, there will be repeated occurrences of Promo Packs. It starts on Friday at 7 PM with the first lightning round (Lightning Round).
This is how the FUT Birthday went in FIFA 17
Last year there was a special team for the FUT Birthday. It consisted of 23 players who were played a lot in previous Ultimate Team parts. Most of the time, the favorites of the gamers were player cards with a lot of pace, so this team is “pace-heavy”.
In the premium SBCs, players could exchange for Throwback Cards. For example, David Luiz as ZDM or a very strong card of Fernando Torres.
Additionally, there were daily birthday SBCs. The more of these eight SBCs one completed, the higher the reward at the end. These were the packs you received for completing:
- 3 daily SBCs – Mega Pack
- 4 daily SBCs – Premium Player Pack
- 5 daily SBCs – Rare Player Pack
- 6 daily SBCs – Rare Mega Pack
