In EA Sports’ football simulation FIFA 16 there are trophies and achievements. In the end, the title “Football Legend” awaits. My path to this is described in the following column.
Trophies (PlayStation) and achievements (Xbox) in games are a bit of a mixed bag: Many gamers couldn’t care less, they just want to play their game and that’s that! For some console players, however, these achievements mean everything: They spare neither time nor effort to unlock all achievements of a game. On PlayStation, the Platinum Trophy, the highest goal of any trophy hunter, is the reward.
For all those diligent collectors, there are numerous guides and trophy-specialized websites on the internet that explain step by step the way to the trophy. There are also YouTube videos that illustrate the whole process. However, there are also people who take on the trophies on their own.
“Football Legend” is the Platinum Trophy in FIFA 16
I have recently become a Football Legend in FIFA 16. More precisely, since the first of April. I’m a bit proud, I admit. At the same time, I have to mention that I would not consider myself a trophy hunter, since it is April, had I earned the Platinum in October, we might be able to argue about that!
Platinum isn’t in a hurry, I thought to myself, FIFA 17 is not coming out for a few months. Meanwhile, I had unlocked all other trophies except for a “simple” bronze trophy a long time ago. Only this achievement, for which I had to complete an online friendly season (just complete, not even win!), was missing for Platinum.
Anyone who has followed my FIFA 16 articles a bit knows that I primarily play Ultimate Team and Pro Clubs in FIFA. I just prefer to play with my buddies in the club rather than against them. That only creates bad vibes. And it’s much more fun to win together, isn’t it?
But in the early evening of the first of April, it was finally time: With a very good friend, I played a total of four matches in the friendly season, ultimately not only winning the season but also taking home Platinum. That’s a nice feeling – and my friend didn’t hold his loss against me either.
Platinum in FIFA 16 requires diligence and endurance
In FIFA 16, it is not so easy to earn Platinum. I may now count myself among the elite circle of the 0.1% of all FIFA players who have managed to do so. In the trophy lists of last year’s FIFA installments, there were always a few achievements that the community struggled with. This year, “That Certain Something” is among the rarest trophies:
This is a bronze trophy, for which you need to score a goal with a women’s team using a flair shot. The challenge here is probably finding a player with the necessary technical ability to execute a flair shot. And it also has to go in. If I remember correctly, I managed to do this with Anja Mittag. But this trophy likely won’t come by itself: you’ll have to aim to unlock it.
Many achievements, however, are unlocked almost automatically by playing frequently and trying out various game modes. For example, I have played very few matches in Career mode, as I prefer to play my games online, but the career trophies were still quickly unlocked.
In my opinion, the hardest trophy in FIFA 16 is the Gold Trophy “The Invincibles“. To achieve this, all four matches in a FUT Draft session must be won, and online! If you lose a match, you have to save up another 15,000 coins to be able to purchase a “ticket” for FUT Draft (or you buy it with real money). Then you get another chance to win four online matches in a row.
This has only been achieved by 3.6% of players, and this despite EA Sports stating that Ultimate Team is the most popular and most played mode in FIFA 16. When I accomplished this “feat” in October, I first shouted for joy. My neighbors appreciated it.
The true treasure of trophies?
Yes, and now I can put a line under the chapter “FIFA 16 trophies”. Even though I ultimately can’t gain much from the Platinum, I am still very proud of it. It fits very well in my modest Platinum collection. I know that a lot of time, effort, joy, and other emotions went into this trophy, and I am reminded of that every time I look at it – whether tomorrow, next month, or in many years. And I will be happy to remember.
Because in my opinion, the true treasure of trophies lies not in unlocking as many as possible in the shortest time, but in the fact that they preserve memories, both positive and negative. Therefore, I wish the passionate trophy hunters lots of fun in their quest, but I take a more leisurely approach to all of this, enjoy the game, preferably with a few good friends, and when I eventually reach Platinum, then I will be even more delighted about it. I only carry this endurance into games that I enjoy in the long run. And that is precisely what matters.
How important are trophies and achievements to you in games? Are you also football legends in FIFA 16?
What innovations does the Pro Clubs mode in the FIFA series need? Here we discuss this.
