One of the biggest changes in FC 25 will be audible to the German community in every match. The commentary duo that has accompanied your games since FIFA 16 will be replaced by younger colleagues.
What legendary commentators they were! Fans of real football, as well as football simulations, have been unable to get past the voices of Wolff-Christoph Fuss and Frank Buschmann for many years.
Since FIFA 16 (Buschmann even since 2011), the duo has provided the acoustic background in almost all game modes. Phrases like “This is what a high school graduate calls anticipating,” “A pass like a Beethoven sonata,” or “Spoiled, like a spoiled child” are inextricably linked to the two sports journalists.
It had been clear since the end of 2023 that EA FC 24 would be the last installment to which the commentary duo would lend their voice. After much speculation and some misinformation, EA announced on August 19 who would step into their shoes.
EA relies on well-known Sky and DAZN commentators
In a nearly 1-minute video, EA introduced the new German commentary duo for FC 25. The video was marked on social media with the addition “A new era begins”:
Who are the successors? The two newcomers are Florian Schmidt-Sommerfeld (Schmiso) and Jan Platte. In the video, we might already hear the first samples of what to expect in FC 25.
While Schmiso is primarily active in Bundesliga matchday conferences and for the English Premier League on Sky, Jan Platte is working for DAZN on major Champions League evenings and for Spain’s LaLiga.
Both already have 7 and 8 years of professional experience as commentators with their employers.
FIFA expert and fans celebrate the new commentators
How does the community react? On Instagram, a large part of the EA FC community has reacted with excitement to the new commentators.
The most famous among them in the FIFA scene is certainly streamer Simon Schildgen aka GamerBrother. He commented on the announcement post on Instagram with a big “W.” This is the common abbreviation for Win among gamers, so it has a positive meaning.
Overall, the majority of comments suggest that most fans are very satisfied with the choice of the new duo. One of the top comments from user kev_x1812 reads: “I couldn’t have wished for better successors.” (via Instagram). He received over 660 likes for this comment (as of 20.08.).
Both commentators are known for reacting emotionally to goals or decisions. It remains to be seen whether they can transfer these emotions to FC 25.
