Korthite crystals are important for legendary items in World of Warcraft. We will explain how you can farm them best.
Sooner or later, all current players of World of Warcraft will face Korthite crystals. Some of them are just sitting in the inventory, while others are panicking to find them in order to upgrade their legendary items. We will show you how to quickly gather a lot of Korthite crystals and what they are actually for.
What are Korthite crystals? A new resource that is of interest to anyone who wants to upgrade their legendary items to rank 5 or 6. Korthite crystals (Korthite Crystal) can be obtained in many different ways when playing new content from patch 9.1. A total of 40 are needed for a single upgrade – so farming can take a while. Therefore, it is worthwhile to exhaust as many sources of crystals as possible.
Where can you find Korthite crystals?
There are numerous ways to obtain Korthite crystals. We will present the most important ones here.
Daily Quests: In Korthia, you are offered 3-5 daily quests every day. Some of them can reward Korthite crystals, 1-2 depending on the quest. However, that depends on chance. The rewards can even differ from character to character. Your main character might receive a quest that rewards Anima, while a second character might receive Korthite crystals as a reward.
Treasures in Korthia: Korthia is full of treasures, and many of them respawn every day. Especially chests of the Mawbound, bone piles, and relic chests can be looted every day and have a low chance of containing Korthite crystals.
Mushrooms and nests can also be looted every day, but do not contain Korthite crystals.
A tip: Not all treasures in Korthia will be shown on your minimap. Often, there are bone piles, relic chests, and other small treasures that you actually have to “see” to find them. The item “Trained Gromit Carrier” helps with this – it summons a little Gromit that points you to treasures and shows you exactly where to find them. This way, you won’t miss anything anymore. You can buy the Gromit early from Archivist Roh-Suir in the Korthia camp.
Chests in the Rift: In addition to the “normal” chests and treasures you can find in Korthia, there is another dimensional layer – the Rift. Every day, 4 chests appear in changing locations that you can loot. They contain Stygia, relics for the archivist, sometimes transmog, and with an increased chance, Korthite crystals.
Whether a chest contains a crystal seems to be random. However, the chance is certainly increased there, as multiple players report having drawn a crystal from each of the four chests. Additionally, the chests can also contain the quest starter item “Supplies of the Deathwing Assault” each week. The quest can additionally reward 0-2 crystals upon turn-in!
You can reliably access the Rift once you have reached reputation level 4 with the Archivist. Then you can buy unlimited access to the Rift and always search for treasures there whenever you feel like it.
The chests will be shown on your minimap when you are nearby. An addon like “Handy Notes” with the Shadowlands add-on can help to see possible spawn points for the chests in advance.
Attack in the Maw: Every 3-4 days (always on Saturdays and Wednesdays), the faction that is attacking the Maw changes. This almost always corresponds with four quests and a “meta-quest” that continues once you have completed the other four missions. At the end, a chest from the respective faction rewards you with a Korthite crystal. Thus, you can obtain up to 2 crystals per week from this source.
Even more crystals via Twinks: Korthite crystals have a big advantage – they are not soulbound. This means you can also gather the coveted crystals with second and third characters. You can then send the crystals to your main character and thus reach the required 40 Korthite crystals faster. Here, having multiple high-level characters is actually worthwhile.
Farming takes too much time and the crystals are too expensive! In that case, there’s probably only one thing to do: wait. The price of Korthite crystals will surely decrease in the coming weeks and months as most players upgrade their legendary items. Through weekly attacks in the Maw and the weekly on Korthia, Korthite crystals should always flow in abundance, so more and more of them will flood the auction house in the future.
