The organizers of Riot Games have presented the anthem for the 2024 World Championship for League of Legends. The song is titled “Heavy Is The Crown” and comes from the newly revived cult band Linkin Park.
Where can I see and hear the anthem? You can find the song “Heavy Is The Crown” along with the official music video from Riot Games below. Those familiar with previous World Championship anthems of League of Legends will notice both familiar and new elements.
It is known that the anthem recounts the “story” of the previous finals while naturally focusing on the players from the two best teams of last year. In the current case, you will see some of the champions from Weibo Gaming and (the winners of) T1.
First real-life comeback, then animated premiere
What’s new? In the past, big names like Imagine Dragons, Lil Nas X, and Zedd have contributed title tracks for LoL, but this time “Heavy Is The Crown” comes from Linkin Park. Similar to the official music video for the animated series Arcane, the band members of Linkin Park also appear in animated form in the new World Championship anthem.
Basically, the song is very well received by the community. The video is gathering a lot of praise, and the upvote counter is about to surpass 90,000. However, not everyone likes that the players are somewhat overshadowed by the musicians’ appearance.
- Millie-c9q writes on YouTube: “Riot seems to have forgotten who the main characters in this song are.”
- Kagariii complains on Reddit: “It’s good, but I could have done without the animated scenes of Linkin Park. I would prefer it to be just about the players.”
- Peaky_Blinders confirms on Reddit: “I didn’t like that the band was in the video; it felt out of place somehow.”
- andehh_ feels the same way (via Reddit): “Good song, but it feels like a large part of the screen time is dedicated to Linkin Park. It feels like it’s more a music video for them than for the World Championship.”
What do you think? Do you like the anthem and the accompanying video? Do you share the criticism? Let us know in the comments!
Why Linkin Park? On September 6, 2024, Linkin Park – seven years after the death of singer Chester Bennington – returned with Emily Armstrong as the new singer. Also included: new songs, such as the single “The Emptiness Machine”.
While the band praises the world-class talent of the singer and guitarist at every opportunity, Armstrong has not only been met with enthusiasm online, and this is not because Chester Bennington cannot be replaced.
Rather, there are reports that Emily Armstrong is a member of Scientology and has supported the actor Danny Masterson, who is imprisoned for multiple rapes. Another shadow was cast over the comeback when it became clear that drummer Rob Bourdon and guitarist Brad Delson no longer want to perform live with the band.
When does the World Championship 2024 start? The 2024 League of Legends World Championship starts on September 25, 2024, at 8:00 PM and ends with the final on November 2, 2024. An exciting story surrounding the tournament: Legendary player Rekkles could become World Champion in LoL in 2024, but differently than he imagined
