Ghost of Yotei is coming out this year for PS5. In a recent digital presentation, the game introduced a new mode that primarily appeals to anime fans – and those who want to go trophy hunting.
What kind of mode is this? Ghost of Yotei dedicated a new mode to 2 well-known directors. One of them, Takashi Miike, the director of 13 Assassins, was honored with a special camera mode. On the other hand, there is a new mode created in collaboration with Shinichiro Watanabe.
In this mode, fans can fight to Lofi beats and explore the area. The songs were even created by Watanabe himself. In the State of Play, you can hear for yourself how chill the soundtrack is at 16:47 minutes:
Soundtrack appeals to anime fans and trophy collectors
What does this have to do with anime? Shinichiro Watanabe is the director of Samurai Champloo. In this series, viewers follow the adventures of the girl Fuu, the ronin Jin, and the vagabond Mugen. The trio is on the run, as the two samurai have been sentenced to death due to an incident at the tea house.
In the anime, relaxed Lofi hip-hop beats were used, which you can now hear in Ghost of Yotei. The anime gave the genre a significant boost.
Moreover, the mode is a tribute to the Lofi musician Nujabes, who became known as a legend of the genre. He composed the music for Samurai Champloo and contributed to the success of the anime. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2010.
What do fans like about it? Many fans comment under the YouTube video of the State of Play that they did not expect the sounds from Watanabe, but the songs are a great addition to the PS5 game.
In the comments on X, many fans also write that the soundtrack is perfect for collecting the trophies at the end of the game. SynthPotato sums it up well: I think this will be perfect when it comes to trophies.
As in Ghost of Tsushima, there will likely also be some trophies in the sequel that are related to collecting certain items or exploring. This can take some time. Especially after you have completed the story, such a chill soundtrack can make trophy hunting even more enjoyable.
However, there are also voices that find nothing appealing about the Lofi mode. X user Robby1614 writes, for example, that the songs break the immersion, as there would be no Lofi in a world of samurai.
