Whoever wants to lift Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir, must prove themselves worthy. According to a theory, no Superman is worthy – except for Henry Cavill.
Thor’s hammer “Mjölnir” is a magical weapon in both mythology and Marvel comics, possessing great power. However, not everyone can wield this hammer. Pure strength, like that of Hulk, is not enough. Those who are not worthy cannot lift Mjölnir.
On Reddit, some Marvel fans have now questioned whether DC’s flagship Superman would be able to lift Mjölnir. A user shares a theory that has garnered much support, stating: Only Henry Cavill’s Superman is worthy.
Thor exists not only in comics and mythology but also in Marvel films:
If a Superman, then Henry Cavill
Why is Henry Cavill worthy? This is – hard to believe – actually less about the actor than about his role.
A Reddit user explained in the comments the theory that it makes someone worthy in Odin’s eyes if the person can kill an opponent if absolutely necessary. However, this does not apply to Superman (via Reddit).
The comment received much support from the community with over 1,100 upvotes. The user was unsure if this was just a fan theory or mentioned somewhere in a comic.
Another user noted, however, that Henry Cavill’s Superman is indeed worthy since he meets this criterion and has already killed an opponent. In Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” Superman is forced to snap the neck of Kryptonian General Zod when he – despite already being defeated – attempts to murder innocent people.
So, is Henry Cavill’s Superman worthy? Ultimately, the fans are also divided on this. He at least meets one criterion. However, he might fall short on other criteria.
One user says that a person must not have self-doubt to lift Mjölnir. This has led to Thor himself being unable to lift the hammer at times. The user adds that Henry Cavill’s Superman doubts himself a lot, and therefore is unworthy.
Meanwhile, Henry Cavill is no longer portraying Superman, and he also had to give up his role as Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation of “The Witcher.” Instead, he will soon fulfill his dream role in a series based on his favorite franchise: Henry Cavill gets to fulfill his heartfelt wish, playing the lead role in an Amazon series about Warhammer
