Since 2023, a live-action series based on the famous anime One Piece has been running on Netflix. The first season was well received, and the second is set to be released in 2026 – and now Netflix casually announces that there will even be a season 3.
Here’s what we know about season 2:
- Season 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2026. There is no specific date yet. Filming has already been completed, and now it’s mainly about the editing.
- One of the major innovations in the second season is the appearance of the reindeer Chopper, who will be completely animated in CGI. Many well-known characters from season 1 will also return.

What about season 3? At the One Piece Day in Tokyo, Japan, Netflix released the first official trailer for season 2. It shows the members of the Straw Hat team as they are actively fighting villains.
Additionally, you can catch a first proper glimpse of Captain Smoker, played by Callum Kerr (The Wheel of Time), and the giant Brogy makes an appearance. The preview for season 2 ends as Luffy steers his ship towards the Grand Line and directly towards the giant whale La Boum.
The trailer itself goes even further: Right after that, Netflix reveals that season 3 is already planned. The website states that filming for it is set to begin in 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa. Ian Stokes (Teen Wolf, Luke Cage) will co-showrun alongside Joe Trasz.
“The trailer is full of details. I love it”
The trailer is receiving an enormous response in the community. Alone on YouTube, the English trailer garnered over 108,000 upvotes within a few hours and received over 1.5 million views.
Especially Smoker is praised in the comments: That he smokes two cigars is “spot on” and just as he was envisioned. Overall, the entire trailer is filled with cool details that fans can discover.
On Reddit, fans are mainly discussing how things will progress after season 2 and where season 3 will take place. Some users suspect it will take place half in Alabasta and half on Jaya.
Overall, fans primarily praise the look of the trailer and are excited about what’s to come. In particular, the German fans celebrate that the characters have the same voice actors as the anime.
