Diablo 4 apparently attracts many players who grew up with Diablo. A fan from the older generation has started a call to look for other “old gamers” and received hundreds of responses, some with astonishing stories.
On Reddit, a 56-year-old player speaks up and asks: “Older gamers, please chime in.” Within a few hours, he receives over 800 responses, many from users who are even older than he is.
One player mentions that he is now 60 and can hardly wait for the release. The reaction of other users: “My father is 60 and doesn’t even know what Facebook is.” In another comment, an even older gamer speaks and says that games help him stay fit:
74 here. My body is falling apart, but my mind stays sharp when I hunt the Butcher and his brood.
The Butcher is one of the most famous and toughest bosses in the Diablo series and will even appear as quite a nasty opponent in Diablo 4. Perhaps even more remarkable is that surprisingly many parents, especially mothers, play Diablo, often with their children.

“We should form the Old Lady Alliance”
In the most popular comment of the thread, a gamer explains that his mother has pre-ordered Diablo 4. She is now 75, and Diablo helped her through her divorce back when part 2 was released. Other women chime in, some “only” 40, others already 63.
The group is now considering forming a clan in Diablo 4, the “Old Lady Alliance” or the “Old Wise Lady Squad”, short: O.W.L.S. There, they would chat over tea with the grandchildren during the day and go demon-slaying in hell at night.
We even know from some users here on MeinMMO that older gamers and parents are joining in to play with their offspring. Ambrosia, for example, writes he is 48 and will go hunting Lilith with his 25-year-old son.
Why are “old gamers” fascinated by Diablo 4? The Diablo franchise has been a pillar of gaming since 1996 and is one of the most famous game series. Diablo, being quite a brutal game, already appealed to a more adult audience back then. Now, almost 26 years later, the latest entry in the series, Diablo 4, is set to release and apparently attracts many fans of the earlier parts.
However, some new features that have shaped gaming for years are not necessarily popular with a segment of this generation:
