For fans of Fallout, December brings some positive news. Not only is season 2 of the Amazon series starting – it has now been revealed that the original creator of the games, Tim Cain, is returning to Obsidian Entertainment. However, one should not get too excited about a possible New Vegas 2.
In a new YouTube video, Tim Cain announced that he has moved back to Southern California and is back at Obsidian Entertainment. He is now said to be working full-time and on-site for the developer studio, so he is no longer a contract worker.
Tim Cain is a legendary developer. He was the producer on the first Fallout game, which was released in 1997, and also worked as a programmer on the second part. He has previously worked for Obsidian on Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Worlds. He left Obsidian in 2020, but now he is back.
Many fans are likely hoping for a Fallout: New Vegas 2 after the announcement, but this hope should probably be kept low.
No information about his new project
What does Cain say about his new position at Obsidian? Cain only briefly speaks about his new position. He says he cannot yet talk about the new project because it is under embargo. One should also not try to guess what the new project is. According to him, one would not be able to guess it.
In the future, there should be another game coming out, not from Obsidian, that he has worked on. He also does not go into detail about which game it might be. Between 2020 and 2025, he worked on further projects, but he is unsure if they will actually be released.
A new chance for Fallout: New Vegas 2? Since Cain already speaks of not being able to guess what kind of Obsidian project it is, the chances for a sequel to Fallout: New Vegas seem low.
Obsidian Entertainment itself already commented in November 2025 about a possible New Vegas 2. The company’s vice president, Marcus Morgan, knows that fans are hoping for a sequel to the Fallout game, but also explained that they find joy in their own IPs, which have also been continued in 2025 (Source: PC Gamer).
What is currently going on at Obsidian Entertainment? 2025 was quite a packed year for Obsidian. They released a total of 3 games:

- The survival sequel Grounded 2
- The RPG sequel The Outer Worlds 2
For New Vegas fans, The Outer Worlds 2 is probably the title that comes closest to the Fallout part. At least in series form, fans can soon return to New Vegas.
