In Fallout 76 you need a lot of materials when you want to craft certain things. For an important step in the game, you need a very specific resource: Black Titanium. Here’s how to find it.
Black Titanium is rare: You need Black Titanium shortly after starting the game for your progress in Fallout 76. The material is scarce and can be difficult to find. With our tips, it should be easier for you to obtain Black Titanium
Locations for Black Titanium
If you’re looking for the rare material “Black Titanium”, you can only find it with tough enemies and in the Ash Heap area. You should have reached at least level 20 to gather it without significant danger.
There are several places where you can find Black Titanium especially well.
Garrahan Mining HQ and Ash Heap: While you’re completing a quest to obtain the blueprint for the Power Armor Station, you will spend some time at the Garrahan Mining HQ.
There and throughout the entire area in Ash Heap, you will find Mole Miners that closely resemble Mole Men. Mole Miners are mainly found near mine shafts and at the Red Rocket station in Ash Heap.
With the Mole Miners, you will often find “Mole Suit Scrap”. This can be broken down at workbenches into gears, steel, and Black Titanium.
Kill Deathclaws: If you are in a group or already have decent equipment, you can also go hunting for Deathclaws instead. However, Deathclaws are among the toughest enemies in the game.
North of the Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant, there is a small island in the river. The island is called “Deathclaw Island” and is plentiful with its namesake.
Deathclaws usually drop some units of Black Titanium that can be individually looted by each party member if you’re with friends.
Mine Black Titanium: You can also simply mine Black Titanium from deposits, similar to aluminum, silver, iron, and gold. However, the deposits are somewhat rarer and more scattered.
If you want to smelt the ore, you will also need acid. Therefore, the method is somewhat more cumbersome. There are a few spots where titanium deposits regularly appear:
- The Belching Betty Mine
- The Burning Mine
- A junkyard west of Morgantown
There are more places, but they are located in the swamp and are not suitable for players under level 35. In the mines, expect fire and enemies. So you should wear the appropriate armor.
Treasure Hunt in Ash Heap: The last option will cost you some caps. In the small town of Welch in Ash Heap, there is a vending machine where you can buy cards. The cards show you excavation sites and start short quests.
There are three cards for sale that cost a total of 300 caps. Each shows you a location where you should look for a dirt mound. The mounds look like piled-up dirt with small stones in them.
In each of these mounds, you will find 10-20 units of Black Titanium as well as caps and other useful items.
What is Black Titanium used for?
With Black Titanium, you can craft the Excavator Armor. This is a power armor that you need to complete the “Power Grave” quest. The quest rewards you with the Blueprint for Power Armor Stations.
The individual parts of the armor must be attached to a Power Armor chassis that you can find at certain locations in Appalachia. In total, you need 36 units of Black Titanium for all parts of the Excavator Armor.
A nice side effect is that when wearing a complete Excavator Armor, you gain +100 carrying capacity. Until Bethesda raises the size of the personal stash in the near future, this is a good method to carry more.
