The destruction left by the war in Fallout 76 overshadows unique moments in many places. However, Appalachia also has beautiful sides, and in some locations, this beauty shows itself in all its glory.
In many places in Fallout 76, destroyed buildings, irradiated trees, or improvised constructions by raiders and super mutants obstruct the view of truly beautiful areas. However, those who venture a little off the beaten path can enjoy a wonderful view.
Post-War Blues in the Forest
You can discover the first location early in the game. It is located in the middle of the forest, near the New River Gorge Bridge (West). Head a little west of the middle of the forest from Vault 76 to the south, and you will reach the landmark, right at Cow Spots Creamery.
You will need to walk a bit northeast along the bridge until you reach a collapsed part of the bridge. Go down to the lower half, the maintenance corridors, and from there proceed over the narrow grates to the northeast.
You will encounter only low-level ghouls and bloodbugs here (around level three to ten). They should not pose a significant challenge for new players. At the end of the maintenance corridor, you will find some wooden boards with a chair and a banjo on the right side.
From there, you have a view of the southern part of the forest with old power poles, some buildings, and trees in all the colors of autumn. In the distance, you can even see some of the smoking chimneys from Ash Heap.
The Darkly Beautiful Ash Heap
The second location is a bit further south and in a more dangerous area outside of Ash Heap. Southeast in this area, there are several houses of wealthy families that could “look down” on the workers from there.
The Garrahan estate is your destination. To enter the estate, you first need to obtain the keycard. It is located a bit south, in the Garrahan Mining Company headquarters, which you must visit for the Excavator Power Armor and the schematics for the Power Armor Station. You will find the card there on a desk.
You can now use the estate’s elevator all the way up to the top floor. Inside the estate, you may encounter tough enemies. Both security bots and wendigos can lurk there.
To reach the viewing point, you need to climb all the stairs. At the top, you will find a balcony, where you can jump over the railing and land on an outer wall. From there, you have a full view of the mining area Ash Heap and its industrial landscape.
The Picturesque Spruce Knob Lake
The third location is quite close to the second, but secluded from the main routes and in a somewhat more dangerous area. In the south of the Savage Divide, there are many beautiful places to discover. One of them is the Spruce Knob Lake, which even boasts its own campsite.
You can best see the lake from another spot. A little west of the lake, you will find the location “Mountains: Southern Lookout.” This is a lookout tower like the one where you can also discover the saddest story of Fallout 76.
The lookout is guarded by a few scorchers and is full of traps. When you climb it, caution is advised. A tripwire with a shotgun as well as a bomb and possibly other inconveniences await on the stairs.
Once at the top, you cross the guard’s room and go to the outer platform of the tower. Turn east, and you have a beautiful view of the lake.
The Radiated Cranberry Bog
The last of our most beautiful views is a bit further northeast, near Hunterville. If you walk there from the lake, you will encounter numerous larger groups of ghouls and super mutants.
The viewpoint is located directly east of the “Freak Show,” a raider camp, and north of the monorail lift. You will find the edge of some cliffs with a slightly larger rock there.
From this rock, you can almost overlook the entire Cranberry Bog with its polluted woods, the destroyed city of Watoga, and in the distance, even recognize the Pylon V-13, where a dead man tells of time travel.
Which viewpoint do you like best?
There are not only beautiful views in Fallout 76, but also some quite strange places:
