To get better items in Fallout 76, you have many options. Trading with other players is one of the easiest and fastest ways. Here’s how it works.
Trading with other players: Fallout 76 is the first Fallout where multiple players can play together by default. This allows you to easily buy or sell things you have found or crafted.
How can you trade in Fallout 76?
Find a buyer or seller: To trade in Fallout 76, you need two things:
- An item for sale or enough Caps for a purchase
- and a buyer or a seller.
This may sound trivial, but it’s not that easy. West Virginia, where Fallout 76 takes place, is a very large area and only a limited number of people can play on a server. Additionally, other players can also shoot you dead if you’re not careful.
So it may take a while to find someone with whom you can and want to trade.
This is how a trade works: Once you have found someone willing to buy your items or sell you things, you just need to meet. Once you are face-to-face, you can start the transaction using the “Offer/Accept Trade” button:
- Step 1: Approach the player and hold down the “Offer/Accept Trade” button.
- Step 2: Choose the item you want to sell (or wait for an offer).
- Step 3: Enter the price the other person should pay and confirm.
- Step 4: Select the item and press “Offer”.

This way, you are now offering items for sale. The other player can simultaneously offer you their own items for sale, which you can then see in your inventory. Three more steps are needed to complete the trade:
- Step 5: Interact with the offered items. On Xbox, you need to pull the right trigger for this.
- Step 6: Select the item and press the “Buy Item” button.
- Step 7: Confirm the purchase.

What benefits do I get from a trade? By trading in Fallout 76, you can quickly acquire Caps or better weapons and gear. Especially Stimpaks are always useful.
Fallout 76 also offers you the opportunity to craft special and unique weapons. If you find someone who offers them, you can easily buy good gear. If you craft such items yourself, you can secure a good amount of Caps.
