Among all the different items in Fallout 76, there are also some quest items. These include the Technical Data. This guide explains how to find them and what you need them for.
What are Technical Data needed for? As part of the Brotherhood of Steel quest line, you will be tasked with finding Technical Data scattered throughout the game world. The quest is called “Forbidden Knowledge” and can be repeated.
To start the quest and be able to turn in technical data, you must have joined the Brotherhood of Steel.
Locations of the Brotherhood of Steel and Starting the Quest
How to join the Brotherhood of Steel? The faction’s quest line is part of the main story of Fallout 76. You will encounter it at some point during the game. A part of the quest almost drove our Author Benedict to despair.
This is where the quest starts: Once you have joined the Brotherhood, head to Camp Venture to start the quest. The camp is located on the southern edge of The Mire, east of Appalachia. Once you have completed it once, it will restart every time you find Technical Data.
To complete the quest, you simply need to make your way to the basement of one of the buildings in the camp and place the data in a safe there. The tour is worth it just because there is a small armory behind it that you can loot.

What do you get as a reward? Technical Data can be submitted either individually or in groups. To complete the quest and receive the reward, one item is enough.
The reward apparently varies. In any case, there are experience points and items. It is not entirely clear which items you can receive as quest rewards. The quality varies greatly, as u/Blitzpanzerr reports that you can get special Brotherhood of Steel skins for the Power Armor.
Other players also report that they have received skins for the various Power Armors. Apparently, you need to submit five or more Technical Data at once to increase the probability.

Some players speculate in the subreddit for Fallout 76 that it is worth handing in multiple Technical Data at once. This is said to positively influence the quality of the reward. However, there are no official statements from the developers on this.
Technical Data – How to Find the Quest Item
Technical Data can be found everywhere: Technical Data is found in many locations, mostly in desks, safes, and filing cabinets. They are particularly common in containers in military facilities.
Is there a reliable source? Several players report that the Enclave bunker is a place where Technical Data can be repeatedly found.
This is how you find and enter the Enclave bunker: The Enclave is one of the factions in Fallout 76. Their bunker is part of the main quest and is located directly beneath the Whitespring Resort. However, you must work your way through the main quest first to gain access.
In the Whitespring bunker, there is a military wing that you will need to gain access to again – even if you are already allowed into the bunker.
There you should search all corners and containers that you find. With a bit of luck, you will find several Technical Data. Now you must either search in other locations, or you can significantly shorten the process via server hopping.
You can also find Technical Data here: Government buildings are apparently also a solid source. In Fallout 76, there are several cities with government buildings. In Charleston, for example, there is the Charleston Capitol, where you can also find several Technical Data with a bit of luck.
Where is Charleston located? The city is located in the west of Appalachia, on the border between the Forest and Ash Heap. You can find the Capitol at the eastern edge of the ruins.
