Join the Order of Mysteries: The questline for the Order of Mysteries is one of the longer quests in Fallout 76. It is a side quest that takes several hours to complete and rewards you with unique items.
How to unlock the “Order of Mysteries” questline
The questline involving the “Order of Mysteries” starts as a somewhat overlooked side plot during a main quest. If you’re interested in the story of Fallout, which can be told even without living NPCs, you should definitely take a look at this quest.
Step 1 – Find the tattered veil
During the main quest of Fallout 76, where you are supposed to find a vaccine against the Scorched plague, you will arrive in Charleston at the AVR Medical Center. In a side street at the northern entrance, there is a corpse.
The young woman has a few items with her:
- a torn dress
- a bit of money
- a tattered veil
You will receive a cryptic message on your Pip-Boy. The veil itself is a wearable item and starts a quest.
Step 2 – Go to Riverside Manor
With the veil in your possession, you now need to find out what the equipment is good for. One hint leads you east of Charleston to a series of residences belonging to wealthier people.
One of the residences is the “Riverside Manor,” which is besieged and inhabited by dozens of Scorched. Remove them from your path and enter the house. Inside the manor, you must ultimately find a use for the veil.
Go to the upper floor and use the “Study Terminal.” Here you will learn that the house belongs to Shannon Rivers, the voice actress for the Mistress of Mysteries from the eponymous radio show from Silver Shroud. Fans of Fallout 4 might still remember her.
Step 3 – Find the secret base
In the final step, you must ultimately figure out what is going on with Shannon Rivers, the veil, and the Mistress of Mysteries in Riverside Manor. For this purpose, you need to look around the ground floor.
In one of the living rooms, there are several partitions against the walls. Equip the tattered veil and approach the decoration in the left back corner of the room. It will slide aside and reveal a hidden door.
With the veil still equipped, make your way to the basement of the building, where another secret door secured by laser barriers awaits. Behind this, you will ultimately find a hidden headquarters. Congratulations! You are now on the trail of the Order of Mysteries.
What does the “Order of Mysteries” questline offer?
The questline is structured in several stages that you can complete one after the other. It takes you across Appalachia and repeatedly presents you with challenges. However, you can easily combine it with other quests, even if these can sometimes come with issues.
In the end, unique weapons and equipment await you. Even if you don’t want to wear them (yet), don’t sell them. You will always need at least one version of the items to be able to craft better versions.
However, the greatest reward of the questline is likely to be an exciting story that you delve deeper into. Uncover the secret of the Order and find out what happened to it. However, the ending is not for the faint of heart.
