The EVGA X17 in practice
In this section, we will present how the mouse performs in practical tests. We will cover weight and speed but also which sensor is used in the mouse and what possibilities the mouse offers in practice.
Weight, ergonomics, and handling
The size and weight of the X17 feel very familiar in practice, as the ergonomics and weight remind you of other well-known representatives of the genre.
Weight: With a relatively high weight of 103 grams, the mouse sits calmly and stably in the hand and on the desk. Although the additional weights are a nice bonus, we rarely used them in practice. The same goes for the G502 Hero; here too, the additional weights remained in the box most of the time.
Grip and handling: The mouse sits well on the mouse pad and the mouse feet provide enough grip for movements. However, the mouse feet are overall a bit thin and small. Other mice offer even better grip on the mouse pad.
The surface is pleasantly smooth, but fingerprints are quite noticeable on the black surface. However, this does not detract from the overall successful handling. On the matte surface of the G502 Hero, fingerprints are visible in the same way.
Ergonomics: The EVGA X17 fits quite well in my large hand and feels comfortable. The fingers securely grip the mouse. All buttons are easily and accurately reachable. However, the “back” of the mouse could be a little larger to better support the palm.
Getting used to the sniper button, which is placed close to the back of the mouse, is definitely necessary. Logitech places the button on the G502 very far forward, which can be an issue for smaller hands. EVGA’s solution is unconventional but works surprisingly well, as in combat you only have to pull your thumb up instead of extending it forward.
Although both the X17 and the Kone Aimo Remastered are large mice, the Kone Aimo Remastered feels better in my girlfriend’s right hand. This is because the Kone Aimo Remastered is a bit wider, and the fingers have more space on the surface. With the X17, the fingers are closer together, which is not as comfortable in the long run. This fact ultimately leads me back to the conclusion that the wide backside of the Kone Aimo Remastered is simply more comfortable in the long run. Additionally, one of the two thumb buttons of the X17 is no longer easily reachable for smaller hands. You can see the difference in the following images.
The mouse buttons and scroll wheel
The mouse buttons feel crisp and precise, providing feedback when pressing the buttons. The scroll wheel is distinctly notched, and you can feel this notch while turning. This makes the scrolling feel very precise and not mushy like that of the Roccat Kone Aimo Remastered. Although the mouse does not have a free-spinning scroll wheel like the G502 Hero, you never have the feeling of “floating” while scrolling and becoming imprecise.
Sensor
The X17 is equipped with the Pixart 3389, an optical sensor found in many mid- to high-end gaming mice. We did not experience any issues with the sensor.
The mouse’s special feature is the triple sensor. In addition to the standard sensor, two additional sensors are used, which are responsible for lift-off distance (LOD). In practice, however, during ordinary gaming, we do not feel any direct advantage compared to other mice that only have one sensor.

Conclusion – A good all-round mouse with adjustable weight
Who is the mouse suitable for? The EVGA X17 is marketed by the manufacturer as a shooter mouse and is well-suited for this genre. However, due to its many programmable buttons, it is also a good all-round gaming mouse that can be easily used in various genres. Especially for users who prefer a heavy mouse with modern technology over the current trend of lightweight rodents, the X17 from EVGA is a great find.

What alternatives are there?
- Logitech G502 Hero is a very good all-rounder with few noteworthy weaknesses. You can also change the weight and get a more streamlined design. There is also a wireless version of the mouse with the Lightspeed model.
- Roccat Kone Aimo Remastered: A gaming mouse with excellent ergonomics, stylish lighting, and a precise sensor. The weight cannot be changed on this mouse, and there is no special sniper button.
- Razer Basilisk: The gaming mouse often referred to as a clone of the G502 offers good ergonomics. As an Ultimate model, you even get wireless functionality at a high price. The Basilisk V3 has also been released as a new version of the mouse.
