The developers of Crimson Desert kick off the gamescom week 2024 with an exclamation mark. While moderator Geoff Keighley is still warming up for the opening event on Tuesday evening, they are already releasing a more than seven-minute long gameplay trailer that makes you crave more.
What does the new trailer of Crimson Desert show? At the beginning of the video, protagonist Kliff encounters a group of bandits who apparently have kidnapped children. This first encounter already beautifully showcases the dynamic presentation of the action role-playing game and the variety of combat maneuvers.
Kliff doesn’t just defend himself with shield and sword; he also uses well-animated wrestling moves repeatedly to slam his enemies to the ground, only to send them to the great beyond with a bloody finisher.
Hardly has Kliff defeated the thieves when a giant creature with white fur and bloody antlers appears, and a multi-stage boss fight begins, interspersed with short cutscenes. You can expect attack combinations, evasive maneuvers, special attacks (like the slow-motion shot of a fire arrow), or short climbing passages on the monster.

Already a highlight of the fair
Will Crimson Desert be playable at gamescom 2024? Yep! The developers will make themselves comfortable in hall 6 between August 21 and 25, 2024, allowing all interested parties who can defeat the queue boss to dive into a demo that lasts about 30 minutes. There should also be a gameplay presentation lasting about 60 minutes.
How does MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz evaluate what has been shown? The last trailer of Crimson Desert showcased the variety of activities and content – such as fishing, balloon rides, flute playing, siege battles, arm wrestling, parkour climbing, taming mounts, and much more.
The new gameplay also shows several details that increase my anticipation:
- The boss fight goes through several phases, separated by well-staged cutscenes.
- A snowstorm rages during the battle, looking great and also affecting the environment such as bushes. Although the monster is also white, visibility is never lost, which is a good sign.
- The developers now prefer to refer to Crimson Desert as an open-world action-adventure. However, a quick glance at the inventory makes it clear that the title is also a real role-playing game, with equipment and stats such as health, attack speed, crit chance, movement speed, defense, attack power, and stamina.
For me, Crimson Desert is already a clear highlight of gamescom 2024, and I can hardly wait to get my hands on the new game from the developers of Black Desert. What do you think? You can find more information on our overview page for Crimson Desert.
