Some players have found a way to make the legends Caustic and Gibraltar a bit more useful in Apex Legends. However, this new trick looks very much like a bug, and the developers have already reacted.
What is this trick? For the trick, you need the two legends Caustic and Gibraltar. The crucial elements are Gibraltar’s shield and the gas traps that Caustic can place.
If Gibraltar stands in front of Caustic with his shield active, Caustic can attach his traps to Gibraltar’s shield. They stick. Moreover, Caustic can stack his traps on top of each other.
This allows stacking up to six gas barrels on the shield, creating a massive gas barrel spear for Gibraltar. This triggers when enemies touch it, and Gibraltar can track them with the gas and slowly kill them.
The trick works similarly to the portable shield with Lifeline and Gibraltar.
Why is this useful? The barrels deal ongoing damage, which can kill enemies after just a few seconds. Their weakness was previously that they were stationary and could be destroyed.
However, with Gibraltar’s shield, they become mobile, and in tight spaces, this becomes fatal for enemies if they either cannot escape or are intercepted by Gibraltar’s teammates.
Some Reddit users have jokingly tested the bug, dubbed “Gibraltar and Caustic Buff,” in the bunker, which is already known for its capacity to cause brutal gas deaths.
What do the developers say about it: In the corresponding Reddit thread, one of the developers commented simply with: “buahahahahahaha.” The reaction is reminiscent of the statements regarding criticism of the Mozambique. For now, they seem to be more amused by it.
In another thread, a developer expresses themselves a bit more elaborately:
Look, our latest innovation in live service to balance Gibraltar and Caustic! But seriously, this is quite amazing what you guys are coming up with. It’s hilarious and very creative.

At least the developers have become aware of this bug. Whether they will remove it or leave it in the game remains to be seen. At the moment Respawn is working on other things. However, the community apparently hopes that this mechanic will be retained.
What do you think of the bug?
Another Gibraltar was significantly less useful:
