The developers of the space MMO EVE Online have come up with something very special. They present the game’s history in an extraordinary video.
The MMO EVE Online launched in 2004 and now, around twelve years later, it has evolved and changed significantly. This prompted the developer studio CCP Games to take a look back at the game’s history and create a video from it. But not just one that merely lists the key milestones. That would be boring. CCP Games presents an extraordinary video.
A visually interesting representation
Using the program Gource, CCP employee SnowedIn visualized all logs and directories, showcasing the complete development of the MMO from the beginning to the end of 2016. The video features new branches appearing whenever something new has been added, artistically representing the game’s development. It resembles DNA or a snowflake, continuously evolving and changing – just like the game itself. The video shows not only the dates but also when each update and expansion was developed and how this affects the overall representation.
The video is an interesting and unique insight into the development of one of the most enduring MMORPGs. Additionally, it has a slightly hypnotizing and soothing effect, partly due to the music accompanying the video. Just take a look at it directly here.
