A very large amount of money was taken after a ban wave of players from the space MMO EVE Online.
Recently, there was a major ban wave in EVE Online as some players were linked to trading real money through a gambling site. The website IWantISK is said to have traded around 40 trillion ISK (Interstellar Credits, a premium currency of the MMO) according to one of the banned players. CCP Games, the developers of EVE Online, have now looked into this matter more closely and released a financial report on the situation.
A serious blow to the economy of the MMO
On October 12, the ban wave occurred, and on that very day the total amount of ISK in the game dropped by 24.85 trillion almost overnight. Considering the positive upward trend that ISK had shown throughout the month, approximately 25.77 trillion ISK were affected by the ban wave around the gambling site IWantISK. When this amount is converted into PLEX Gametime, it is worth approximately 20,295 PLEX. These PLEX, when converted into real money, amount to a sum between $303,000 and $405,000, taken out of the game in one fell swoop.
CCP Games does not tolerate real money gambling!
However, the amount is probably even higher. Only the ISK of the banned players from EVE Online that were available as liquid assets were removed. It is currently unclear how much ISK the players had “frozen”. The overall situation should be a warning for the EVE community. CCP Games does not tolerate real money gambling and is taking a strong stance against these sites and the involved players. The company announced, for example, that it will shut down all corresponding websites.
