For 14 months, our author Schuhmann has been wearing the headset “EPOS H3PRO” for a hardware test. He loves the headset, but that’s not mutual.
This is my relationship with the premium headset: I really, really like the headset. For decades, I only wore cheap headsets that somehow broke after a few years. And that was just because I stood on the cable with my gaming chair while simultaneously pulling on the strangely now far too short cable vigorously.
After my usual short-term relationships with other headsets, the EPOS H3PRO is truly a gem for life:
- The sound quality is excellent, whether music, series, or video games – I have nothing to complain about. Although I mostly listen to music with the headset or hear the voices of my lovely team members at work. When gaming, I prefer strategy games, and I usually turn off the soundtrack after a few hours, if I even turned it on at all.
- The wearing comfort is truly excellent – the headset lovingly embraces my ears; at 308 g, I hardly notice that I am wearing it, even after hours. Everything is great.
- The voice output is wonderful. You can listen to a sound example of me on Soundcloud:
This is how I use the headset: Like a Neanderthal. While the EPOS offers Bluetooth, USB dongle, and many other features, I have boringly plugged it into my gaming PC with a USB cable.
I also do not use the included software program. Although I tried to use it, I found no added value for me.
Epos itself states that you can connect the EPOS H3PRO to any gaming device through various connection options:
This is how the headset behaves towards me: Extremely picky and slightly passive-aggressive.
I don’t know why, but even though I have the headset plugged into the computer via cable, it feels the compulsive urge to regularly inform me of how charged the battery is.
When this happens, there’s a brief noise that interrupts every other sound before the headset’s voice announces, in the tone of a Deutsche Bahn employee, how long the battery will last.
I swear: I’ve already experienced that the headset waits for the worst time to tell me this completely useless information. Once, I was relaxed in bed and was just dozing off when the headset yelled this information at me.
My headset acts up when I ignore it for too long
What else does the headset do to annoy me? In my job, I often have to rewind and fast forward videos from Twitch or YouTube to hear exactly what is being said at a certain point.
For a while, the headset has had the habit of swallowing the sound from the first seconds of a video and only initiating it after 3 or 4 seconds.
If I have ignored the headset for a longer period, for example after a workday, and then wanted to use it to listen to music, it sometimes acts up and refuses to produce any sound. Only after I reset it, which fortunately can be done with a button on the right speaker, as I noticed after a while.
Especially during calls, the headset sometimes switches to mute or makes a lot of noise until I manually unplug it from the computer and plug it back in.

I love my headset, but it resists against it
However, when I told my boss, Dawid, how much I love my headset, but that it resists against my love, he merely murmured coolly that it sounds like a production defect. He suggested that I contact support and look for a replacement.
But I can’t bring myself to just replace the headset. It just feels too good and right, as if it was made for me and my ears.
