In the space online game Elite Dangerous, war has broken out against the Thargoids – even though the players actually wanted peace.
After mysterious alien spacecraft appeared in Elite Dangerous a few months ago, they have now declared war on humanity. The Thargoids appear repeatedly in space and pose a challenge as enemies.
The player Commander Relient Owl reports on his first encounter. A Thargoid ship was located among the wrecks of NPC imperial spaceships, noticed the player, scanned him, and opened fire. In no time, the ship was nearly scrap.
Thargoids are extremely powerful
So far, no player has managed to destroy a Thargoid ship. However, they can be damaged, as the player jcollasius reports.
He shot off a piece of the hull of a Thargoid ship, analyzed it, and discovered that the ships are apparently of organic nature. He could not find out much more, as the piece of hull corroded and attacked the systems of his ship.
Aggressions come from the Thargoids
Why the Thargoids attack is unclear, as the players of Elite Dangerous actually wanted peace.
A protocol for “First Contact” was even circulated, which was supposed to avoid an aggressive first contact and instructed players to behave calmly when in contact.
Reactions to the protocol show that in most cases, the Thargoids are the attackers. Players generally behave pacifistically. However, this does not help them much, as the aliens continue to attack relentlessly.
