About six months ago, contact was first made with aliens in the space online game Elite Dangerous. These Thargoids are now appearing on planets.
The first encounter with the aliens took place in space. Spaceships were seemingly pulled from hyperspace at random and then scanned by a gigantic ship, which subsequently vanished into the depths of space. Now the aliens are back.
Thargoid Alarm!
This time you will encounter the Thargoids on planetary surfaces. They appear near so-called Barnacles, mysterious alien structures that can be found on some worlds.
If you find yourself with your rover near such a structure, an alien spaceship may appear. Your systems fail and you can do nothing but watch. Other players nearby can also do nothing during the encounter.
Aliens are invincible
However, one player managed to get his rover back to his ship in time, which seemed to trigger some sort of bug, as he could control his ship and also fire at the spaceship. But it took no damage.
Since it seems that attacking the Thargoids is not intended at this stage, the ship is likely indestructible. During this encounter with the aliens, one can see a sort of energy beam forming between the ship and the barnacle. Afterwards, the aliens fly away again.
