Unlike what FIFA fans had feared, FIFA 20 VOLTA will launch without microtransactions. However, it is questionable whether this will remain the case.
The FIFA community was already concerned during the announcement of the VOLTA mode and the associated cosmetic items that they would have to purchase everything from shoes to hair with real money.
But EA surprises and says: There will be no microtransactions in VOLTA.

These items will be available in VOLTA: EA has announced that players will be able to completely customize their VOLTA character. This includes clothing, face, hair, and tattoos. There will also be a VOLTA store where hoodies, jackets, pants, t-shirts, etc. can be purchased.
EA talks about VOLTA
This is what EA says: In a major interview with Eurogamer, EA confirms to the surprise of many FIFA players that the new VOLTA store will not contain microtransactions at launch. Instead, all in-game items will be unlocked through gameplay.
This is surprising, especially as Ultimate Team in FIFA has been controversial for years due to its numerous microtransactions and ways to spend real money.

When asked if they categorically exclude microtransactions, Matt Prio, FIFA 20’s Creative Director, says:
We never rule anything out. Since we are constantly evolving, we never say never. But no, there are no microtransactions at launch.
So it doesn’t sound like a general no to microtransactions in VOLTA; we will have to wait and see.
This is how fans react to EA’s statements
This is what the fans say: Fans are somewhat divided but are generally pleased that VOLTA will have no microtransactions at launch. As one reddit user rScoobySkreep states, “No microtransactions? Let’s go! I think EA could rock it this year.”
However, some suspect that VOLTA in FIFA 20 could just be a test for EA to eventually incorporate microtransactions in FIFA 21, as this user pointed out on reddit:
“WHAT??? I can hardly believe that EA is not going to cash in on all the cosmetic items in this mode. Maybe this is just a test for FIFA 21.”
Others, however, would have no problem with a real-money shop for VOLTA, like triolgh: “Cosmetic microtransactions are a million times better than the pay-to-win nonsense in Ultimate Team”
What do you think? Will microtransactions come to VOLTA after all?
