The negotiations between the football world association FIFA and EA Sports show a capitalistic power struggle that is temporarily over. EA Sports is parting ways with “FIFA” and the popular football simulation will soon be called EA Sports FC. What does this mean for the commercially most successful video game series in the world? This is what the MeinMMO editorial team discusses in the podcast.
For a long time, there has been a rumor that the FIFA video game series will soon change its name. This speculation is now a reality. FIFA 23, which is set to be released in 2022, will be the last game in the franchise to carry this name.

In the official statement regarding the separation, EA Sports made it clear that the important licenses for real players, leagues, and more will remain in “EA Sports FC”. This includes exclusive partnerships, for example with the Bundesliga, Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and MLS.
But what do these changes specifically mean for EA and the massively successful football simulation? FIFA has long been accused of not offering any innovation and being focused on maximizing profit. Could the separation bring fresh air to the game or is it ultimately only about the opportunity to enter into new collaborations?
Exactly this question is discussed by editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski, editorial manager Gerd Schuhmann, and Max Handwerk, the FIFA specialist from MeinMMO.
