The new survival game Dying Light 2 is released in Germany as a cut version. Nevertheless, the uncensored version is available for purchase – just not in this country. However, it remains playable. Which version will you choose?
Update: If you purchased the version via Steam, Epic, or directly from Techland, you received the uncensored version of Dying Light 2.
How do the versions differ? In Dying Light 2, you play as a survivor of the zombie apocalypse. Humanity is on the brink of extinction, making survival tough – and bloody to boot.
Since the scenes shown can sometimes be very graphic, Dying Light 2 is cut in Germany. Particularly brutal violence is removed, but at its core, there are only 2 significant differences:
- Human opponents cannot be decapitated or dismembered.
- Neutral NPCs cannot be killed.
Ultimately, how big the difference is and how much it affects your gameplay experience is for you to decide. But we want to know from you: do you play the cut or uncensored version?
Cut vs. Uncut – A matter of friends
What you need to pay attention to: The two versions do not differ greatly from each other, but there is a catch. Dying Light 2 is playable in co-op, but only with the same version.
If you buy the cut version and want to play with friends who are playing Dying Light 2 uncensored, it will not work. The “international” version is not compatible with the “German” version. You need to agree on one version with your friends.

Activating via Steam and the like should not be a problem in Germany. You are allowed to own the version, but it is not available for purchase in German stores. You may need to acquire uncensored versions through Austria or Switzerland, if necessary.
When will Dying Light 2 be released? The survival game will be playable from February 4, 2022, on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. A Switch version will be released within the next 6 months, though currently without a specific date.
