You will never truly like your first miniatures, but they also show the progress you make
When I look at my very first miniatures, I still wonder today: How could I be satisfied with that?
In my first miniatures, I notice all the mistakes I have listed in this article. Too thick layers of paint, not enough light and shadow, completely invested in the wrong miniatures and utensils.
However, I can rejoice in my first miniatures, be they krakens or knights, that I have stuck with the hobby and will continue to do so. It feels good to see my development after a year. Especially when you often feel that you cannot see any improvement from miniature to miniature.
Too often, newcomers – including myself – tend to compare themselves to the best of the best on social media and YouTube who paint miniatures like brush gods. It is much better to keep track of your own progress, evaluate the small steps, and grow from there.
I also find that I still have a lot to learn. I want to achieve better layering, try my hand at more exotic miniatures, and eventually confront my nemesis … eyes.
