In Dune: Awakening, many players initially thought that the lack of fall damage for vehicles was a bug. In the meantime, many players appreciate the feature and are pleased about it.
What is this feature? When Dune: Awakening was released, many believed that the fall damage for vehicles was not intentionally turned off and that an upcoming patch would ensure that vehicles could no longer fall unharmed from mountains and cliffs.
According to beta testers, however, this is not a bug (via Reddit). During the testing phases, it was a conscious decision to keep this “bug” as a feature in the game. About three months after the release, players know why that is.
Here you can see what comes with the next big update of Dune: Awakening:
A “bug” becomes a celebrated feature
How is the feature received? The players of Dune: Awakening now greatly appreciate the feature. Since it is known that vehicles only take damage from explosions and sandstorms, many players drive their buggies wildly through Arrakis.
Especially when it’s time to farm new erythrine crystals, players have to delve deep into the Hagga Rift. The gorge is very deep, which is just fine for the players, as they love to throw themselves into the depths and watch their buggy hit and bounce everywhere.
While many things can end deadly on Arrakis, this method is completely safe and even more fun, especially concerning the dark Hagga Rift with its many levels and obstacles.
What do players say about the feature? Many fans are very pleased that there is no fall damage with vehicles. On Reddit, they even praise the developer who introduced this explicitly. They write:
- bahumutx13: “The developer who decided against fall damage for vehicles is my absolute favorite. I use a ramp to jump off a cliff and quickly get to the resource deposits. It works perfectly.”
- Barialdalaran: “At first, I was always afraid of getting stuck down there, but it turned out to be one of the most relaxing places in the game.”
- noetilfeldig: “I just drop it [my vehicle] out of my transporter during the flight.”
- helenGenie: “The day they introduce fall damage for vehicles will take away a lot of my joy. That’s why it’s such a challenge to play other games. For example, I constantly forget in ESO that I can’t just jump off a cliff without losing my mount.”
Making an unrealistic decision entirely for the benefit of one’s game and its players was the right step in this case. Should the developers reconsider at some point, it could cause upset.
In Dune: Awakening, a new vehicle is also set to come with the big update “Chapter 2” soon. Instead of a powerful tank or a new flying device, however, there is a two-wheeler of a very special kind as a new vehicle: Dune: Awakening finally has a roadmap, but the most important change won’t come until 2026
